十幾年來 帶著一個樂團 踏遍資源匱乏 的 窮鄉僻壤 上山下海
學習前人的佳美腳蹤 的 愛與關懷 雖然累得很 賺得少 心裡卻很滿足

如今 偶爾 演演講 教教課 寫歌唱歌 比較少了

一輩子寫歌唱歌做音樂出唱片 是不是一種夢想
不要太勉強 曾經擁有就好 天長地久 可遇不可求

將來 想要做啥麼事情 除了寫歌唱歌 做做音樂 還有啥麼會呢
不要回頭 不要流連 跟自己說再見 跟過去說再見
每個人生 隨時隨地 都可以 重新開始 都可以 重新設定

Then, Now, and In the Future

In the beginning, I was just a guy imitating others, learning guitar, singing nonsense, trying to impress girls.
Suddenly, I discovered this thing called protest singers from abroad.
Like Bob Dylan, like Phil Ochs, like Woody Guthrie.

They sang not just to express their feelings, but for the land, for the people, for fairness, for justice.
So I wanted to learn too, and I sang everywhere, street movements, protests, demonstrations, I was in everything.

Then, [hip-hop] became trendy, and I was asked to be in a boy band, singing and dancing.
Monkeys on my back, monkeys copying me, what kind of bird, what kind of ghost, cheesy as hell.
Suddenly, they asked me to do rap songs, and I thought, "Wait a minute, I can sing, why won't you let me sing?"
I'm crazy, you're crazy, whoever releases this, whoever buys this, is truly crazy.

Later, they came up with this [Taiwanese Indigenous Dance Music], and it worked by adding a bunch of "dong ci dong ci" to traditional chants.
I heard people saying it started a new trend called "New Taiwanese Indigenous New Music Wave".
How is that possible? How is that possible? Since I was little, so many friends from the indigenous communities have been my teachers.
Ho hai yang, mi yo mei, ling mei suo la ling mei yo, our most precious treasure.

Actually, people still prefer love songs, the "wah lah wah lah" kind of popular rock songs.
So, I had to try making rock music: roots rock, punk rock, wacky rock, Taiwanese rock.
Sure enough, the judges liked it better, I won a Golden Melody Award, brought honor to my ancestors, a touching story.
So happy, so happy, this is life, what more could I ask for? A peaceful retirement, a happy death.

For more than a decade, I've taken my band all over resource-poor, remote areas, mountains and seas.
Following in the beautiful footsteps of my predecessors, spreading love and care. Although it's tiring and doesn't pay much, my heart is full.
I don't mind, I don't ask for much, I just want to be grateful for everything, go with the flow.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for watching over us and lighting our way.

Now, I occasionally give lectures, teach classes, write and sing songs, but less often.
Over the years, when I walk down the street, I meet concerned friends who ask, "Why don't you release albums anymore?"
"Even if I held a concert, I couldn't sell tickets." I feel bad for THE WALL, for Riverside Live House,
for the owner of LEGACY.
Is writing, singing, making music, and releasing albums a lifelong dream?
Don't push it too hard, it's good to have had it. Forever is rare and precious.

In the future, what do I want to do? Besides writing and singing, making music, what else can I do?
Don't look back, don't linger, say goodbye to yourself, say goodbye to the past.
Everyone can start over, anytime, anywhere. Everyone can reset.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll be selling plain noodles on the street corner, or working as a clerk at 7-Eleven.
