かえり船

波の背の背に 揺られて揺れて
月の潮路の かえり船
霞む故国よ 小島の沖じゃ
夢もわびしく よみがえる

捨てた未練が 未練となって
今も昔の 切なさよ
瞼あわせりゃ 瞼にしみる
霧の波止場の 銅鑼の音

熱いなみだも 故国に着けば
うれし涙と 変わるだろう
鴎ゆくなら 男のこころ
せめてあの娘に つたえてよ

Returning Ship

Rocked and swayed on the waves' back,
A returning ship on the moonlit sea path.
My hazy homeland, off the small island's shore,
Even dreams sadly come back to life.

The regrets I left behind, now become longing,
The same old sorrow remains.
When I close my eyes, I feel the sting,
Of the foggy pier's gong's sound.

These hot tears, when I reach my homeland,
Will surely turn into tears of joy.
If the seagull flies there, with a man's heart,
At least tell my girl for me.
