新年早々の車の中で
うとうとと聴いていたラジオドラマ
気付けば私は真剣に
耳を傾けていた
ラジオを愛する青年の
儚い恋の物語
画像の無い新鮮な世界に
想像を膨らませた
彼は彼女に一途だった
彼女も彼に恋をしていた
けれど彼らには苦難があった
想い合う二人を仕切る厚い壁
この話を五十年も後に耳にしている
自分自身がこの憎たらしい壁を
壊せればいいのにと思った
戦後間もない情勢の中で
彼はひたむきにラジオ放送の
台本を書き続けていた
ペンだこが出来るほど
彼女は上流階級で
貧しさを知らぬ裕福な生活
貧乏な彼との結婚は
両親が許さなかった
彼は彼女に距離を置かれた
彼女は彼を想って泣いた
彼らをつなぐ唯一のものは
彼の声が流れ出すラジオ放送
聴いてくれている事を願う者と
その声を耳の奥に焼き付ける者は
離れていても繋がれていた
悲しくも
彼女は見合い相手と結婚することになった
けれど彼女は
彼を忘れる事は出来なかった
彼との駆け落ちも望んだけれど...
彼は仕事に追われていたから
その場をどうしても離れられない
でも愛する人の夢を壊して本当に
自分が幸せになれるのかといったら
そうではないと悟った
ラジオから流れる彼の声を聴きながら
一歩一歩新たな道を進んでゆく
私も前へ 進んでゆくよ...

A Love Story

In the car early in the New Year
I was half-asleep listening to a radio drama
Before I knew it, I was
Listening intently
It was a story about a young man who loved radio
And his fleeting love
In a fresh world without images
My imagination ran wild
He was devoted to her
She was in love with him, too
But they faced hardship
A thick wall separated the two who cared for each other
I'm hearing this story fifty years later
And I think
If only I could break down this hateful wall
In the chaotic postwar period
He diligently wrote
Radio drama scripts
His pen grew calluses
She was upper class
Living a wealthy life
Her parents did not permit
Her marriage to the poor man
He was kept at a distance from her
She wept for him
The only thing connecting them
Was the radio show with his voice
She who hoped he would listen
And he who etched her voice into his memory
They were connected even though they were apart
Sadly
She was to marry someone else
But she
Could not forget him
She even wanted to elope with him
But he was busy with work
He could not leave his work
Yet, if she were to destroy the dreams of her beloved
Could she truly be happy? she thought
She realized the answer was no
Listening to her beloved's voice
She walked forward, step by step
I too will go forward...
