A Roving Wanderer

On the twelfth day, strolling through the orchards of California,
I cast aside a look of longing.
For you, I no longer yearn.
On the sixteenth day, bathing in the hot springs of Kyushu,
I discarded a heart that had been foolishly devoted.
My emotions are slowly beginning to heal.

I check in my luggage,
Free of the weight of longing.
Self-pity, self-harm, self-loathing,
Are now expired credentials.
I left behind my memories,
Until my heart no longer softened.

I deliberately did not keep any negatives,
To capture fragments of happiness.
This postcard,
Chosen from a random corner.
I deliberately did not mention my heartache,
To gain the sympathy of strangers.
I wonder, what has become of your face,
Left in that distant hotel?

On the twentieth day, in the shadow of Big Ben,
I paid off all my debts.
I redeemed my sunny days.
On the twenty-sixth day, in front of the ancient relics of Easter Island,
I left behind my greed, my anger, my resentment,
Or perhaps I simply forgot to take them to paradise.

I prayed at Notre Dame,
But my Lady did not appear to me.
I mourned on the Yamanote Line,
The journey was too long, the night too short.
I wept in Changhua County,
Afraid that you would hear me.
