Spring arrives, green fills the window pane,
A young woman embroiders mandarin ducks in vain.
Suddenly, a ruthless stick strikes with might,
Scattering the loving ducks, taking flight.

Summer arrives, willow branches sway so long,
A young woman drifts along the great Yangtze's song.
North and south, the scenery is fair and bright,
But nothing compares to sorghum stalks taking flight.

Autumn arrives, the lotus flower's sweet perfume,
A young woman dreams of home in the night's gloom.
Waking, she sees no parents' loving face,
Only the bright moonlight in this lonely place.

Winter arrives, snow falls all around,
Warm clothes are made for my beloved, safe and sound.
