The Sinking Night is the opening track on the record
And it is actually a fragment of a greater work

It was probably like four or five minutes
Just this really epic track
So when we started kicking around the idea of
Having Burials open with an intro
I started talking to Jade about, you know
What about certain parts of that song?

I just thought it was a good, heavy, dark, moody
Way to intro the record

It is, in fact, one of two songs that I believe Jade and I
Wrote in the dark. Jade started playing that riff, and
The blues melody came to me and I started singing
And it became what went on to be a more layered version of itself

It sounds really full and heavy
It's just a good way to start out the record
Something not too long and involved
But really gets you in the mood of Burials

« La Nuit Tombante » est le morceau d'ouverture de l'album,
et c'est en fait un fragment d'une œuvre plus vaste, ma chérie.

Il durait probablement quatre ou cinq minutes,
un morceau vraiment épique.
Alors, quand on a commencé à envisager
d'ouvrir « Burials » avec une intro,
j'ai commencé à parler à Jade, tu sais,
de certaines parties de cette chanson.

Je trouvais que c'était une bonne introduction,
lourde, sombre, mélancolique, pour l'album.

C'est, en fait, l'une des deux chansons que Jade et moi avons
écrites dans le noir, je crois. Jade a commencé à jouer ce riff,
et la mélodie blues m'est venue et j'ai commencé à chanter.
Et c'est devenu ce qui allait devenir une version plus riche et complexe.

Ça sonne vraiment plein et lourd.
C'est juste une bonne façon de commencer l'album,
quelque chose de pas trop long et compliqué,
mais qui te met vraiment dans l'ambiance de « Burials ».
