And I... I got to tell you, Brantley, you're giving your fans a hell of a lot of music
This is just a lot
And I know, for a while, I remember reading that you were actually kind of having writer's
Block or you were just kind of struggling with the creative
But obviously, the day I'm broken, it all came pouring out
So, I mean, just talk to me about the fact that
You managed to come up with more than enough material

Well, in the beginning, of course, you know this about me, too
I'm kind of... I'm a perfectionist when it comes to certain things, in a weird way
Yeah
You know, I'm obsessive-compulsive, but not in
This stuff can have a little bit of dust on it as long as it's the same distance apart from the next thing
You know what I mean?
Right

There's certain things
I'm really strange about certain things having to be a certain way
And it wasn't necessarily that we didn't have the song
We had plenty of songs to make a record all along
We could have put out a record a month after we put last one, yeah?
Oh, wow

It wasn't that we didn't have songs
It was... Do they tell the story? And do they tell it correctly? (Right)
Do they tell it truthfully? Do they cover the whole thing?
Is the... is there some extra stuff in there?
It's just good time and stuff on top of the story
Right

You know what I mean?
Do we cover everything we covered on the last record and then some?
Because honestly, when we go into making a record, I listen to all the past records
And... they all have a feeling at the end of them
And I... you know, it takes you on a little journey
Did this one do that? And it didn't, for me, at first

I mean, it took some arranging and rewriting
And when we start from a catalog of over 200 songs
Right
That's not counting the stuff that's just not finished
I mean, there are ideas that are just verses or verse choruses and things that are unfinished
That didn't fit the last record or the record before, the record before that
They're 10 years old
Wow

That may fit this one
There may be a verse chorus that lets write this verse
Let's write that chorus, here we go
Oh, well, there it is
You know what I mean? It's kind of like an "aha" moment (yes)
And that happened several times

And actually, by the end of it, when we really started putting it together and putting things
In order to tell the story
Sonically from song to song, thematically, we had more than we needed
Obviously, with 26 songs
Five of those are live recordings of songs that have been done in the past
But outside of that, I mean, we... we're talking 21 songs that hadn't been done before at all
And we had songs left over
I think we recorded five more in the studio
If not more, that we still didn't use
Well, I know you say this next song is kind of like you in a nutshell

Chérie, ça c'est "Rockin' Chairs" tiré du tout nouvel album de Brantley Gilbert,
"The Devil Don't Sleep", qui est disponible dès maintenant.
On discute actuellement avec Brantley à propos de l'album et on écoute tous les morceaux.
Et je... je dois te dire, Brantley, tu donnes à tes fans énormément de musique.
C'est vraiment beaucoup.
Et je sais, depuis un moment, je me souviens avoir lu que tu avais une sorte de blocage d'écrivain
Ou que tu avais du mal avec la créativité.
Mais visiblement, le jour où j'ai craqué, tout est sorti d'un coup.
Alors, dis-moi, comment tu as fait
Pour trouver autant de matière ?

Eh bien, au début, bien sûr, tu me connais aussi,
Je suis un peu... je suis perfectionniste pour certaines choses, d'une manière étrange.
Ouais.
Tu sais, je suis obsessionnel-compulsif, mais pas dans le sens où...
Ces trucs peuvent avoir un peu de poussière tant que c'est à la même distance du truc suivant.
Tu vois ce que je veux dire ?
Oui.

Il y a certaines choses...
Je suis vraiment bizarre sur certaines choses qui doivent être d'une certaine façon.
Et ce n'était pas forcément parce qu'on n'avait pas les chansons.
On avait plein de chansons pour faire un album depuis le début.
On aurait pu sortir un album un mois après le dernier, tu vois ?
Oh, waouh !

Ce n'était pas qu'on n'avait pas de chansons.
C'était... Est-ce qu'elles racontent l'histoire ? Et est-ce qu'elles la racontent correctement ? (Oui)
Est-ce qu'elles la racontent honnêtement ? Est-ce qu'elles couvrent tout ?
Est-ce qu'il y a... est-ce qu'il y a des trucs en plus ?
C'est juste du bon temps et des trucs en plus de l'histoire.
Oui.

Tu vois ce que je veux dire ?
Est-ce qu'on couvre tout ce qu'on a couvert sur le dernier album et plus encore ?
Parce que honnêtement, quand on commence à faire un album, j'écoute tous les albums précédents.
Et... ils ont tous une certaine ambiance à la fin.
Et je... tu sais, ça t'emmène en voyage.
Est-ce que celui-ci fait ça ? Et ce n'était pas le cas pour moi, au début.

Je veux dire, il a fallu des arrangements et des réécritures.
Et quand on part d'un catalogue de plus de 200 chansons...
Oui.
Sans compter les trucs qui ne sont pas finis.
Je veux dire, il y a des idées qui ne sont que des couplets ou des refrains et des choses qui ne sont pas finies.
Qui n'allaient pas avec le dernier album ou l'album d'avant, l'album d'avant.
Elles ont 10 ans.
Waouh !

Qui pourraient aller avec celui-ci.
Il pourrait y avoir un couplet-refrain qui nous permet d'écrire ce couplet.
Écrivons ce refrain, voilà.
Oh, eh bien, le voilà.
Tu vois ce que je veux dire ? C'est un peu comme un moment "eurêka" (oui).
Et c'est arrivé plusieurs fois.

Et en fait, à la fin, quand on a vraiment commencé à tout assembler et à mettre les choses
Dans l'ordre pour raconter l'histoire,
Musicalement d'une chanson à l'autre, thématiquement, on avait plus que ce dont on avait besoin.
Évidemment, avec 26 chansons.
Cinq d'entre elles sont des enregistrements live de chansons qui ont déjà été faites.
Mais en dehors de ça, on parle de 21 chansons qui n'avaient jamais été faites auparavant.
Et il nous restait des chansons.
Je crois qu'on en a enregistré cinq de plus en studio,
Voire plus, qu'on n'a toujours pas utilisées.
