I wished those arms a timely death held my breath

And my eyes clouded with water
Washing clean ears ringing I cried like a melodrama
For all the was holy and vanquished in me

Entre le Vomissement et l'Assoupissement

J'ai pleuré après mon premier chagrin d'amour,
mes larmes d'adolescent coulaient sur mes draps.
J'ai trouvé du réconfort dans l'aiguille
et la lame de rasoir, le chagrin dans la chanson.
J'ai pleuré comme dans un mélodrame télévisé.

Puis les choses ont changé,
je n'en parlerai pas beaucoup.
Des choses qui n'auraient pas dû être m'ont été révélées.
J'ai compris ce que la plupart n'ont jamais à savoir
et pendant 30 ans, pas de larmes,
pas de larmes pendant 30 ans,
juste de l'action et du sommeil, de l'action et du sommeil.

Et j'ai vaincu les dragons qui m'entouraient,

Et une nuit, entre la brume et les tremblements,
entre le vomissement et l'assoupissement,
je me suis souvenu de tout, peut-être était-ce un dieu
ou un démon inférieur me donnant de la clarté,
un cadeau dérobé, volé pour moi.
Je me suis souvenu des esclaves et des désespérés,
mendiant et déchirant, à court de temps.
Je me suis souvenu de tous les signes
me disant de faire preuve de pitié, que cela pourrait m'arriver un jour.
Et je me suis tenu au large chemin tortueux,
ne donnant aucun quartier, ne montrant aucune faiblesse.

Je me suis souvenu de tout
et pourtant aucune larme n'est venue.
Puis l'enfant en moi m'a tendu les bras,
« Prends-moi », a-t-il dit, maigre comme un rail, enfoncé dans mon cœur
et ma cage thoracique, piégé dans l'obscurité, levant les bras vers le ciel,
m'appelant papa, maman, implorant de l'aide.
Pourtant, je n'ai pas pleuré.

J'ai souhaité à ces bras une mort rapide, j'ai retenu mon souffle
pour le priver d'air.

Et puis, de quelque part, un éclair a jailli,
loin de moi, le grondement a retenti une seconde plus tard
et mes yeux se sont brouillés d'eau,
lavant mes oreilles qui bourdonnaient. J'ai pleuré comme dans un mélodrame
pour tout ce qui était sacré et anéanti en moi,
pour ceux que je désirais tant revoir,
pour ce qui m'avait vaincu.
J'ai pleuré comme pour ne jamais oublier.
