Se vê a estrada da pipa
Sinal do forno, a figueira
E o tronco de uma tronqueira
Que se quebrou numa lida
A casa grande caída
E o quadro onde foi mangueira

Pedaço triste do pago
Quando a noite vem chegando
E o gado vem farejando
Procurando uma pousada
Lambendo a guincha esfiapada
Que o tempo vai derrubando

Quando ali passa o gaudério
De noite com tempo feio
Quase sempre tem receio
Que ali exista um assombro
Atira o poncho no ombro
E levanta o pingo no freio

Mud hut has collapsed
On the side of a road
For a while it sheltered
The old gaucho traveler
Where wagoners stopped

Looking for a place to stay
Licking the frayed trough
Which time is tearing down

When the gaucho passes by
At night in bad weather
He is almost always afraid
That there is a ghost there
He throws his poncho over his shoulder
And spurs his horse forward
