PANDEMIC

In the depths of endless darkness, beneath the veil of my eyelids,
I stir from slumber, lost in a chaotic haze.
Upon a cold, surgical bed,
I am drawn by the fragrance of a dying lily.
Time, once mundane and vast,
Is now fragmented and surreal, like a shattered dream.
The world has been silently invaded,
By an unseen, sterile infection.
Is there still meaning in understanding?

Touch, grasp, bind, release, seize, hold, and embrace.
My body still retains its dexterity, ensnaring you,
Yet my mind drifts further and further away.
Waves upon waves of humanity crash and surge,
A radiant yet desolate spectacle, an endless pursuit.
The world is quietly overflowing,
With an insatiable, unfeeling contagion.
Is there still meaning in love?
If I desire more,
Why did I not realize my own sinfulness before?
I yearn for salvation.
Speak, cry, sing, laugh, stay silent, shriek, and scorn,
My foolish lips babble incessantly, like an idiot's.
Thus, I have forgotten where my heart resides.
Do you still believe we are connected?
We are all utterly alone,
Despising only ourselves.
Our words are but empty fantasies.
Touch, grasp, bind, release, seize, hold, and embrace.
My body still retains its dexterity, ensnaring you,
Taint, defile, violate, destroy, fell, kill, and annihilate.
We still have the capacity to inflict any harm upon one another,
Until humanity itself ceases to exist.
