昔々 栄えし国の

禁忌の森に入り
崖に足を取られて

不思議な光に向け 若者は我を失くしたように

鹿は銀いろの声で云う
だがこの森守るわたしが
死ねばすべては茨となり
おまえの都も滅びるだろう
心臓を突き
金の首と剥いだ革
勇んで城に運ばれる
幾年か経ち王子は王に
戦破れ国は衰え
茨伝う城壁
嘆き交わす人々
愛も幸も遠去かりゆく
やがては喰うものまで 底を尽き飢えと渇きのなか
森へと訪えども朽ちた木々 芽のひとつもなく
泉も涸れ 獣の影さえなくただ風が通り
疲れ頽れ ふと目を上げれば
黄金の幼き牡鹿
あなたは父の仇
いつかと同じ声が響く
でも屍と化した国を
再び甦らせるのは
あなたをおいては誰もいない
永遠の わたしのこの血肉で

王は涙をこぼしながら
やわらかな胸へと矢を射る

Arakawa

Long ago, in a prosperous land,
a prince went hunting alone.
He entered the forbidden forest,
and fell off a cliff.
When he came to, the moon had not yet set.
Then, in the midst of his dizziness, a golden figure approached.
A stately stag with towering antlers, a divine beast.
Drawn to the strange light, the young man lost his mind.
He drew his bow and took aim.
A steel arrow on a taut string,
he cared not for his own life.
The stag spoke in a silvery voice,
“But if I, who guard this forest,
should die, all will turn to thorns,
and your city too will perish."
He pierced its heart.
Its golden head and flayed hide
were proudly carried back to the castle.
Years later, the prince became king.
His kingdom weakened after a lost war.
Thorns grew on the castle walls.
People exchanged laments.
Love and happiness faded away.
Eventually, they ran out of food and were consumed by hunger and thirst.
They visited the forest, but found only dead trees and no sign of life.
The springs had dried up, and there was no trace of animals, only the wind.
They collapsed in exhaustion, and looked up.
There stood a young, golden stag.
“You are my father's enemy,”
the same voice echoed.
“But there is no one but you
who can revive this dead land.
With my eternal flesh and blood,”
“you can save your people.”
“I will give you my life.”
The stag cried out in a silvery voice.
The king, shedding tears,
shot an arrow into its soft chest.
Repenting from the bottom of his heart for his past mistake.
The repentant king lived with the light of forbidden color.
Until his death, the two rough hides.
