Lake Country Inn

To the lonesome lake of the mountains
I came alone with a heavy heart
I can't stand the pain in my chest
I burn yesterday's dreams and
The faint smoke of old letters

As twilight descends upon the water
I walk quietly through the woods on the shore
The clouds drift and turn purple
And fall like delicate violets
Tears fall from the setting sun

I bring the lamp closer and write to my hometown
But then I erase it. A letter from the lake.
In my solitude, I play solitaire
And draw a card, the Queen of Hearts
Oh, her solitude!
