This is a dream my five-year-old nephew had
Now you gotta get the context to this dream, right?
A year after this dream, parents were divorced
So there were dragons in the house

He was about four at this time, and he was running around the house
With this little plastic knight helmet on, and sword
And zipping around killing things with it
Doing this all the time and even when
He went to sleep at night

And on top of their head was a cross
And there's lots and lots of these dwarfs
And they were jumping on with their beaks biting him
We all looked at him and thought
"Well, it's no wonder you're waking up screaming, right?
I mean, you know, that doesn't sound so good."
And then he says, "Well, wait, there's more
Like back in the distance there's a dragon."

And the dragon is puffing out fire and smoke

It turns into these dwarfs
Big problem, right? Just like the problem with the Hydra
In Greek mythology
You can cut off one head seven more appear
"What are you gonna do about these dwarfs, kill one?"
"Big deal, 10 more are coming, what can you do about that?"
In a legal trial, that would have been an inadmissible question
That's called leading the witness
Because what I told him was, "Despite the horror of this situation
You maybe could do something about it."
And he said, "Ha, I take my sword, I get my dad."
That's a good idea, right? There's the real dad
And then there's the tradition dad, right?

Wow, that's unbelievable
Unbelievable that he could do that
Perfect, right? There's no sense going after the dwarfs
Because thousands of them

What happens when you go after the dragon?
You get a piece of it, piece of its center, nature
Piece that can defend you against anything
Including other dragons
What if this was the case evolutionarily speaking
Or religiously speaking?
What if we were adapted to the world?
Now what if it's not the simple
Place of dead objects that we think it is?
What if it's something a lot more alive
A lot more like a story?
What if the story is something like this?
You have absolutely everything you need
But you have to use all of it
If you run away from any of it
You don't get that piece of the dragon
If you miss even one piece, there's a chink in your armor
There's a place where you're vulnerable
If you make even one mistake you lessen yourself
If you're lessen yourself, you're gonna run away more
Not only that, when someone wants to lean on you
They're not gonna be able to lean on you
'Cause you'll just fall over
What if it was the case that we were
Adapted to the world? Really adapted to it
So that if we made full use of all the talents
That we have, we'd be okay
But what if it wasn't the case
That if we set out consciously to never run away
From something we know we shouldn't run away from
Then everything would be all right

But this is what I think
I think it's bloody amazing that
That little kid's book has all that information in it

"If that information isn't true..."

avec son petit casque de chevalier en plastique et son épée,
et il zigzaguait partout en tuant des choses avec.
Il faisait ça tout le temps, et même quand
il allait se coucher le soir,
il mettait l'épée à côté de son casque de chevalier jaune sur son oreiller.
Alors, toutes les nuits, ou une nuit sur deux,
ou une nuit sur trois pendant six mois,
il se réveillait en hurlant.
Donc, j'étais là un soir où il s'est réveillé en hurlant.
Le lendemain matin, je lui ai dit :
"Alors, tu as rêvé de quelque chose ?"
Et là, il s'est lancé dans cette histoire.
Il m'a dit qu'il était dans un champ et que ces petites créatures,
comme des nains, s'approchaient de lui.
Et ils n'avaient pas de bras, ils avaient juste des jambes.
Ils avaient de gros becs,
et ils étaient couverts de poils et de graisse.
Et sur la tête, ils avaient une croix.
Et il y avait des tas et des tas de ces nains,
et ils lui sautaient dessus en le mordant avec leurs becs.
On l'a tous regardé et on s'est dit :
"Eh bien, pas étonnant que tu te réveilles en hurlant, hein ?
Je veux dire, tu sais, ça n'a pas l'air très drôle."
Et là, il dit : "Eh bien, attendez, ce n'est pas tout.
Au loin, il y a un dragon."

Et le dragon crache du feu et de la fumée.

ça se transforme en ces nains.
Gros problème, hein ? Comme le problème de l'Hydre
dans la mythologie grecque.
Tu peux lui couper une tête, sept autres apparaissent.
"Qu'est-ce que tu vas faire avec ces nains, en tuer un ?"
"C'est ça, oui. Dix autres arrivent, qu'est-ce que tu peux faire contre ça ?"
Dans un procès, ce serait une question irrecevable.
C'est ce qu'on appelle influencer le témoin.
Parce que ce que je lui ai dit, c'est : "Malgré l'horreur de la situation,
tu pourrais peut-être faire quelque chose."
Et il a dit : "Ha ! Je prends mon épée, je vais chercher mon père."
C'est une bonne idée, hein ? Il y a le vrai père,
et puis il y a le père de la tradition, hein ?
Autant avoir son père à ses côtés
quand on part au combat.
"Je prends mon épée, je vais chercher mon père. Je vais là où était le dragon,
je lui saute sur la tête. Je lui crève les deux yeux avec mon épée.
Je descends dans sa gorge jusqu'à l'endroit où sort le feu.
Je découpe un morceau de cette boîte, et je m'en sers comme bouclier."
Wow, c'est incroyable !
Incroyable qu'il ait pu faire ça.
Parfait, hein ? Ça ne sert à rien de s'en prendre aux nains,
parce qu'ils sont des milliers.

Que se passe-t-il quand on s'attaque au dragon ?
On en obtient un morceau, un morceau de son centre, de sa nature.
Un morceau qui peut te défendre contre tout.
Y compris contre d'autres dragons.
Et si c'était le cas d'un point de vue évolutionnaire ?
Ou d'un point de vue religieux ?
Et si nous étions adaptés au monde ?
Et s'il ne s'agissait pas du simple
endroit d'objets morts que nous pensons ?
Et si c'était quelque chose de beaucoup plus vivant ?
Beaucoup plus comme une histoire ?
Et si l'histoire était quelque chose comme ça ?
Tu as absolument tout ce qu'il te faut.
Mais tu dois tout utiliser.
Si tu fuis quoi que ce soit,
tu n'obtiens pas ce morceau du dragon.
Si tu manques ne serait-ce qu'une seule pièce, il y a une faille dans ton armure.
Il y a un endroit où tu es vulnérable.
Si tu fais ne serait-ce qu'une seule erreur, tu t'affaiblis.
Si tu t'affaiblis, tu vas fuir davantage.
Et en plus de ça, quand quelqu'un voudra s'appuyer sur toi,
il ne pourra pas le faire.
Parce que tu vas t'effondrer.
Et si c'était le cas, que nous étions
adaptés au monde ? Vraiment adaptés.
De sorte que si nous utilisions pleinement tous les talents
que nous avons, nous irions bien.
Mais et si ce n'était pas le cas ?
Que si nous décidions consciemment de ne jamais fuir
quelque chose dont nous savons que nous ne devrions pas fuir,
alors tout irait bien.
Eh bien, tu peux penser ce que tu veux.
Mais moi, je pense que
c'est absolument incroyable que
ce petit livre pour enfants contienne toutes ces informations.
Et donc tu pourrais te demander :
"Si cette information n'est pas vraie..."
"Comment diable est-elle arrivée là ?"
C'est tout.
