Manhattan Mohicans and,
Jewish Italian pawnbrokers
Lead their theatrical lives in the room and the wings
And outside in the black lands,
The violent day runs wild,
And the black and white minstrels run through the crazy alleys while the cops go booking
And it's 80 degrees and I'm down on my knees

Hamburger stand in the rain
She spoke of astrology while muttering apologies for
Coffee that tasted of hotdogs

Then we lay on the bed while the radio fed us with
Records and adverts for cat food

And the bums in the street begging money for one last drink are hanging 'round the liquor stores trying to get a foot in

Sa maison était une collection poussiéreuse et rouillée

des prêteurs sur gages juifs italiens

le jour violent se déchaîne,
et les ménestrels noirs et blancs courent dans les ruelles folles tandis que les flics procèdent aux arrestations.
Et il fait 27 degrés et je suis à genoux

Et oh, je suis de retour dans la ville,
on peut le dire à l'odeur du
stand de hamburgers sous la pluie.
Elle parlait d'astrologie tout en s'excusant pour le
café qui avait le goût de hot-dog.

Et la fille de Pittsburgh et moi avons fait l'amour sur le matelas,
sous le regard de la nouvelle lune.
Et dans la fraîcheur du soir, j'étais à genoux
à Brooklyn.
