El chaquetón raído y unas maracas,
La libertad al hombro y un gorro extraño,
Allá por la salida hacia Cuernavaca
La calle tiene un duende de trece años.

El duende, más que un duende, es un niño errante,
Un globo que ha escapado y se lleva el viento,
Que vaga ya la senda del trashumante,
Recién amanecidos sus sentimientos.

Pequeño Juan,
Juan Golondrina...
Vecino de los gatos
Y las cantinas.

Pequeño Juan,
Juan Golondrina...
Cantándose la vida
Por las esquinas.

Embrión de donde nace el titiritero;
Retal de la ternura, gorrión apenas
Que a lo mejor mañana será jilguero,
Contando con que pase de este poema.

Perito en madrugadas bajo los puentes,
A veces en el Metro o adonde sea.
Acróbata del hambre, cuando la suerte
Oscila sobre el canto de una moneda.

Quién sabe si algún día, por esas cosas,
Nos hace una pirueta y levanta vuelo
Y se va persiguiendo una mariposa,
Dejándonos a todos, aquí en el suelo.

Clamando como siempre, que es necesario
Organizar la vida con más detalle;
Alterarle las cuentas al calendario...
El tiempo de los niños y el de la calle.

Vecino de los gatos
Y las cantinas.

Por las esquinas.

La imprudencia
De advertir a la gente

Freedom on my shoulder and a strange hat,
Out by the Cuernavaca exit
The street has a 13-year-old sprite.

The sprite, more than a sprite, is a wandering boy,
A balloon that has escaped and is carried away by the wind,
Who now roams the path of the wanderer,
His feelings having just dawned.
