Me voy pa'l pueblo con la pilcha dominguera
camisa blanca, bombacha negra,
en alpargatas, faja roja y corralera,

Llevo el cuchillo afirmao a la cintura,
de cuerno 'e vaca, la empuñadura;
lo uso pa' todo, tiene doble afiladura
y más que nada pa' defensa personal.
Y cuando el sol asoma el pico en la alborada
vuelvo en mi zaino pa' la ranchada
medio "caú" y en la billetera sin nada
pero contento por haberla disfrutao.

The Dominguero

I'm going to the town with my Sunday best
white shirt, black pants,
in alpargatas, a red sash and a corralera,
matching my alligator belt.
There my beloved guaynita awaits me,
green skirt, flowered blouse,
and I hold her close, face to face
as we waltz, strum and dance the chamamé.
My dark gray hat
with a chin strap to a neckerchief tied in a knot.
Who can keep up with me at the dance
when I let out a loud sapukay!
I carry my knife fastened to my waist,
its handle made of cow horn;
I use it for everything, it has a double edge
and most importantly for self-defense.
And when the sun peeks its nose at dawn
I return on my horse to the ranch
a little tipsy and without a dime in my wallet
but happy to have enjoyed myself.
