Passing cars like they was standing still

All of a sudden, in the wink of an eye
A Cadillac sedan passed us by
I said boys, that's a mark for me
By then the tail lights was all you could see

Now the fellas all rid me for being behind
So I thought I'd make that Lincoln unwind
Took my foot of the gas and man alive
I shoved it on down into over drive

Well I wound it up to 110
My speedometer said that I'd hit top end

Wir fuhren spät nachts aus San Pedro los,
Mond und Sterne schienen hell.
Wir fuhren den Grapevine Hill hoch,
überholten Autos, als ob sie stillstünden.

Ganz plötzlich, im Nu,
zog eine Cadillac-Limousine an uns vorbei.
Ich sagte: Jungs, den schnapp ich mir!
Da konntest du nur noch die Rücklichter sehen.

Die Kumpels zogen mich auf, weil ich hinten lag,
also dachte ich, ich lass den Lincoln mal laufen.
Nahm den Fuß vom Gas und, Mannomann,

Ganz plötzlich fing sie an zu klopfen,
in den Senken begann sie zu schaukeln.
Ich schaute in den Spiegel. Rote Lichter blinkten.
Die Polizei war hinter meinem Hot Rod Lincoln her.

Nun, sie verhafteten mich und steckten mich ins Gefängnis,
riefen meinen Vati an, um meine Kaution zu stellen.
