And she went into a tailor's shop and dressed in man's array
To ship on board of a man of war and convey herself away

She says I am your daughter and likewise your daughter dear
I fought through the wars in Germany and I have my Johnny here

And the bonfires blazed on every hill as you may plainly see
For to welcome this young couple home from the wars of Germany

And her father then he gave consent to join in wedlock bands
Besides he gave her a thousand pounds a thousand and free land

Et tes joues sont rouges comme des roses, pour affronter les boulets de canon. »
« Mes joues peuvent être roses et mes doigts petits,
Mais je ne tremblerais pas, même si dix mille hommes me tombaient dessus. »

Les tambours résonnaient et la musique jouait fort,
Et ils sont allés au champ de bataille.
Ils se sont battus avec courage toute la journée, avec force et détermination,
Et un sergent et deux officiers furent tués par cette belle fille.

Lorsque la guerre fut terminée, elle fit le tour du champ de bataille,
Et parmi les morts et les blessés, elle trouva son marin.

En remontant les rues de Mohill, elle le prit dans ses bras,
Et fit venir les meilleurs médecins pour soigner ses blessures saignantes.

Son père s’approcha et dit : « Ma fille a disparu,
