There I cut a hazel branch
And hung a berry on a thread
White moths came flying
Then the stars gleamed
I cast the berry into the stream
And fished a little trout of silver

When I had placed it on the ground
To revive the dying fire
Something moved suddenly

A maiden she had become

She called my name and vanished
