Beyond the Light Illuminating this Darkness

Indelible, burning so fiercely
Despair, disillusionment, endlessly bleak
A simple breath is an ordeal now
I try to grasp, but I can't, the hand extended
Believing no one, I brush it aside
Without question, I distrust everything I see
If only I could accept things as they are
What spills over with each blink of an eye
Could the days we call love ever come?
With eyes as clear as at birth
Could I see what is truly precious?
Affection, friendship, the promises we made
Since we can't touch them, we find it impossible to trust
Visible, invisible, what color is the "heart"?
The deeper I gaze, the more obscured it becomes
Impatience and hatred ravage my soul (heart)
And before I know it, I am shattered
With faint, almost vanishing strokes
I trace the outline, filling it in layer upon layer
If all it does is muddy the waters, turning black as night
I might as well hide it all in the all-encompassing darkness
A world I shut off with unease and surrender
Losing even my place in it
And now I realize,
The meaning of taking the hand held out to me
Gentleness is about "forgiveness"
If the tears drawn out by someone's warmth
Could light up someone else's darkness
Even with my eyes closed, I sense a genuine hope (light)
