Pit Pashtpanem

With my grandpa's voice resounding in my ears since I was a child,
I think about our children who weep incessantly.
Why does my heart ache so relentlessly,
When I'm all alone and despondent?
My ancestral home has been scattered far and wide,
Brothers and sisters estranged from each other.
They forced us from our homes, carrying us far, far away,
So many millions of Armenians, victims of a horrific sway.
I bear the mark of it upon my heart,
And will carry it always, no matter how hard it may smart.
(I will protect them.)
The land and water of our holy fathers,
And the souls of the victims, I will guard and protect them.
I had a dream, in which Armenia stretched from sea to sea,
And the Lord's prayer guided and blessed its people.
Then I opened my eyes, and the dream had disappeared,
Vanishing in an instant, leaving only a glimmering tear.
My family is reunited now, found after all these years,
Brothers and sisters, standing together, dispelling their fears.
Innocent souls, rest easy, your suffering is done.
But the wounds in my heart will forever live on.
