Bhavani Stuti

न मन्त्रं नो यन्त्रं तदपि च न जाने स्तुतिमहो
न चाह्वानं ध्यानं तदपि च न जाने स्तुतिकथाः।
न जाने मुद्रास्ते तदपि च न जाने विलपनं
परं जाने मातस्त्वदनुसरणं क्लेशहरणम् ॥१॥
विधेरज्ञानेन द्रविणविरहेणालसतया
विधेयाशक्यत्वात्तव चरणयोर्या च्युतिरभूत्।
तदेतत्क्षन्तव्यं जननि सकलोद्धारिणि शिवे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ॥२॥
पृथिव्यां पुत्रास्ते जननि बहवः सन्ति सरलाः
परं तेषां मध्ये विरलतरलोऽहं तव सुतः।
मदीयोऽयं त्यागः समुचितमिदं नो तव शिवे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ॥३॥
जगन्मातर्मातस्तव चरणसेवा न रचिता
न वा दत्तं देवि द्रविणमपि भूयस्तव मया।
तथापि त्वं स्नेहं मयि निरुपमं यत्प्रकुरुषे
कुपुत्रो जायेत क्वचिदपि कुमाता न भवति ॥४॥
परित्यक्ता देवा विविधविधसेवाकुलतया
मया पच्चाशीतेरधिकमपनीते तु वयसि।
इदानीं चेन्मातस्तव यदि कृपा नापि भविता
निरालम्बो लम्बोदरजननि कं यामि शरणम् ॥५॥
श्वपाको जल्पाको भवति मधुपाकोपमगिरा
निरातङ्को रङ्को विहरति चिरं कोटिकनकैः।
तवापर्णे कर्णे विशति मनुवर्णे फलमिदं
जनः को जानीते जननि जपनीयं जपविधौ ॥६॥
चिताभस्मालेपो गरलमशनं दिक्पटधरो
जटाधारी कण्ठे भुजगपतिहारी पशुपतिः।
कपाली भूतेशो भजति जगदीशैकपदवीं
भवानि त्वत्पाणिग्रहणपरिपाटीफलमिदम् ॥७॥
न मोक्षस्याकाङ्क्षा भवविभववाञ्छापि च न मे
न विज्ञानापेक्षा शशिमुखि सुखेच्छापि न पुनः।
अतस्त्वां संयाचे जननि जननं यातु मम वै
मृडानी रुद्राणी शिव शिव भवानीति जपतः ॥८॥
नाराधितासि विधिना विविधोपचारैः
किं रुक्षचिन्तनपरैर्न कृतं वचोभिः।
श्यामे त्वमेव यदि किञ्चन मय्यनाथे
धत्से कृपामुचितमम्ब परं तवैव ॥९॥
आपत्सु मग्नः स्मरणं त्वदीयं
करोमि दुर्गे करुणार्णवेशि।
नैतच्छठत्वं मम भावयेथाः
क्षुधातृषार्ता जननीं स्मरन्ति ॥१०॥
जगदम्ब विचित्रमत्र किं परिपूर्णा करुणास्ति चेन्मयि।
अपराधपरम्परावृतं न हि माता समुपेक्षते सुतम् ॥११॥
मत्समः पातकी नास्ति पापघ्नी त्वत्समा न हि।
एवं ज्ञात्वा महादेवि यथायोग्यं तथा कुरु ॥१२॥

Bhavani Stuti

I know no mantra or yantra, nor do I know how to praise you.
I do not know how to chant or meditate on you, nor do I know the stories of your praise.
I do not know your mudras, nor do I know how to smear ashes on myself.
But I know, O Mother, that following you is the only way to end my suffering. ॥1॥
Because of my ignorance of the Vedas, because of my lack of wealth, because of my laziness,
and because of my inability to follow your path, I have fallen away from your feet.
Please forgive me for this, O Mother, who saves all.
Even a bad son may be born, but there is no such thing as a bad mother. ॥2॥
On this earth, O Mother, you have many sons who are simple and good,
but among them I am the most fickle and unreliable of your sons.
My renunciation is appropriate, but it is not right for you, O Shiva.
Even a bad son may be born, but there is no such thing as a bad mother. ॥3॥
O Mother, I have not served your feet
nor have I given you any money.
Yet you still love me so much.
Even a bad son may be born, but there is no such thing as a bad mother. ॥4॥
I have abandoned the gods, being too busy serving them in various ways,
and now I am in my eighties.
If you do not show me your grace now, O Mother,
who will I turn to for protection, O Mother of the big-bellied one? ॥5॥
A dog-eater or a talker may become as sweet as honey,
and a penniless beggar may live like a millionaire.
Your name in my ears is like a fruit in my mouth,
and who knows the power of your mantra, O Mother? ॥6॥
You smear your body with ashes, you drink poison, you wear a tiger skin,
you have matted hair, you wear a snake around your neck, and you are the wife of Shiva.
You are the mistress of the ghosts and the lord of the animals, and you are the only one who can grant liberation.
This is the result of your marriage to Shiva. ॥7॥
I do not desire liberation, nor do I desire worldly wealth.
I do not seek knowledge, nor do I desire happiness.
Therefore, I beg you, O Mother, let my birth be successful
by chanting the names of Mrudani, Rudrani, Shiva, Shiva, and Bhavani. ॥8॥
You have not been worshipped by Brahma with various offerings,
nor have the gods praised you with their words.
If you, O Shyama, show me some kindness, O Lord,
it will be appropriate, O Mother, because it is your nature. ॥9॥
When I am in trouble, I remember you,
O Durga, who resides in the ocean of compassion.
Do not think that this is a selfish act,
for a hungry and thirsty child always remembers its mother. ॥10॥
O Mother of the Universe, what is strange in this? If you are full of compassion for me,
even though I am covered in a series of sins, you will not neglect your son. ॥11॥
There is no sinner like me, and there is no one who can destroy sins like you.
Knowing this, O Mahadevi, do as you think is right. ॥12॥
