Nae thinkin' in the mornin' at nicht where I'm gang to lie
Bothies or byres or barns, or oot amangst the hay
And if the weather does permit, I'm happy a' the day

Loch Katrine and Loch Lomond, they've oft been seen by me
The Dee, the Don, the Devron, that a' flows tae the sea
Dunrobin Castle, by the way, I nearly had forgot
And the reckless stanes o'cairn that mairks the hoose o' John o' Groat

Now I think I'll gang tae Paddy's Lan', I'm makin' up my mind
For Scotland's greatly altered no, I canna raise the wind
But if I can trust in Providence, if Providence should prove true

Tramps und Hausierer

O kommt, all ihr Vagabunden und Hausiererburschen und Beerensammler,
Die ihr das Land rundherum durchstreift, kommt hört zu, alle miteinander.
Ich erzähl' euch eine Wandergeschichte, und von Orten, wo ich gewesen bin,
Weit oben im schneebedeckten Norden, oder südlich bei Gretna Green.

Ich sah den hohen Ben Nevis, der sich zum Mond auftürmt,
Ich war rundherum bei Crieff und Callander und beim schönen Doon.
Ich war an Nethys silberner Flut und an Orten, schwer zu finden,
Weit oben im stürmischen Norden liegt Urquharts Feental.

Ich bin glücklich im Sommer unter dem dunkelblauen Himmel,
Denk' morgens nicht dran, wo ich nachts liegen werd',
In Hütten, Kuhställen oder Scheunen, oder draußen im Heu,
Und wenn das Wetter es zulässt, bin ich froh den ganzen Tag.

Loch Katrine und Loch Lomond, die hab' ich oft gesehen,
Der Dee, der Don, der Devron, die alle zum Meere gehen.
Dunrobin Castle, übrigens, hätt' ich fast vergessen,
Und die rauen Steine des Cairns, die das Haus von John o' Groat bemessen.

Nun denk' ich, ich geh' nach Paddy's Land, ich hab' mich entschieden,
Denn Schottland hat sich nun sehr verändert, ich kann das Geld nicht auftreiben hienieden.
Doch kann ich der Vorsehung trauen, wenn die Vorsehung sich bewährt,
Sing' ich euch allen von Erins Insel, wenn ich zu euch wiederkehr'.
