Genesis Chapter 3
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.
And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent,
We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said,
Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman,
Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day:
And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him,
Where art thou?
10 And he said,
I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked?
Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12 And the man said,
The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13 And the Lord God said unto the woman,
What is this that thou hast done?
And the woman said,
The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
17 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
18 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it:
Cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
19 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
20 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken:
For dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
21 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
22 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
23 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil:
And now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
24 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
25 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

1 Or le serpent était plus rusé qu'aucune bête des champs que l'Éternel Dieu avait faite.
Et il dit à la femme: Oui, Dieu a-t-il dit: Vous ne mangerez pas de tous les arbres du jardin?
2 Et la femme dit au serpent,
Nous pouvons manger des fruits des arbres du jardin:
3 Mais du fruit de l'arbre qui est au milieu du jardin, Dieu a dit:,
Vous n'en mangerez point, et vous n'y toucherez point, de peur que vous ne mouriez.
4 Et le serpent dit à la femme,
Vous ne mourrez certainement pas:
5 Car Dieu sait que le jour où vous en mangerez, alors vos yeux s'ouvriront, et vous serez comme des dieux, connaissant le bien et le mal.
6 Et la femme vit que l'arbre était bon à manger, et qu'il était agréable à la vue, et un arbre à désirer pour rendre sage, elle prit de son fruit, et en mangea, et en donna aussi à son mari avec elle; et il en mangea.
7 Et leurs yeux à tous deux s'ouvrirent, et ils connurent qu'ils étaient nus; et ils cousirent des feuilles de figuier ensemble, et se firent des tabliers.
8 Et ils entendirent la voix du Seigneur Dieu marchant dans le jardin dans la fraîcheur du jour:
Et Adam et sa femme se cachèrent de la présence du Seigneur Dieu parmi les arbres du jardin.
9 Et le Seigneur Dieu appela Adam, et lui dit,
Où es-tu?
10 Et il a dit,
J'ai entendu ta voix dans le jardin, et j'ai eu peur, parce que j'étais nu; et je me suis caché.
11 Et il dit: Qui t'a dit que tu étais nu?
As-tu mangé de l'arbre dont je t'avais commandé de ne pas manger?
12 Et l'homme a dit,
La femme que tu m'as donnée pour être avec moi, elle m'a donné de l'arbre, et j'en ai mangé.
13 Et le Seigneur Dieu dit à la femme,
Qu'est-ce que tu as fait?
Et la femme a dit,
Le serpent m'a séduit, et j'ai mangé.
14 Et le Seigneur Dieu dit au serpent: Parce que tu as fait cela, tu es maudit par - dessus tout bétail et par-dessus tout animal des champs; tu marcheras sur ton ventre, et tu mangeras de la poussière tous les jours de ta vie:
15 Et je mettrai inimitié entre toi et la femme, et entre ta postérité et sa postérité; elle te meurtrira la tête, et tu lui meurtriras le talon.
17 Il dit à la femme: Je multiplierai grandement ta douleur et ta conception; dans la douleur tu enfanteras des enfants; et ton désir ira vers ton mari, et il dominera sur toi.
18 Et il dit à Adam: Parce que tu as écouté la voix de ta femme, et que tu as mangé de l'arbre dont je t'avais commandé, en disant: Tu n'en mangeras pas:
Maudit est le sol à cause de toi; dans la douleur tu en mangeras tous les jours de ta vie;
19 Elle te donnera aussi des épines et des chardons, et tu mangeras l'herbe des champs;
20 C'est à la sueur de ton visage que tu mangeras du pain, jusqu'à ce que tu retournes à la terre, car c'est d'elle que tu as été pris:
Car tu es poussière, et tu retourneras à la poussière.
21 Et Adam appela la femme Eve, parce qu'elle était la mère de tous les vivants.
22 L'Éternel Dieu fit aussi à Adam et à sa femme des tuniques de peau, et les revêtit.
23 Et le Seigneur Dieu dit: Voici, l'homme est devenu comme l'un de nous, pour connaître le bien et le mal:
Et maintenant, de peur qu'il n'étende la main, et qu'il ne prenne aussi de l'arbre de vie, et qu'il n'en mange, et qu'il ne vive éternellement:
24 C'est pourquoi l'Éternel Dieu l'envoya du jardin d'Éden pour cultiver la terre d'où il avait été pris.
25 Et il chassa l'homme; et il plaça à l'orient du jardin d'Éden des chérubins, et une épée flamboyante qui tournait dans tous les sens, pour garder le chemin de l'arbre de vie.
