¿Cuántos de vosotros os levantáis por obligación cada día a la misma hora, vais a estudiar o trabajar en algo que no os gusta?
Y os repetís una y otra vez: es lo que hay, mientras paguen... ya vendrán tiempos mejores.
Pero los años van pasando y nunca llegan.
Pongámonos en la mejor situación del sueño que nos venden desde pequeños.
Terminamos nuestros estudios con buena nota y encontramos un trabajo estable de 8 horas con un sueldo que te permita pagar tu alquiler o hipoteca, tener tu perro, tu gato, tu tele gigante, tu coche, tus caprichos, tus cositas con tu pareja, vale... ¿y ahora?
Te quedan 50-60 años por delante en los que como mucho podrás aspirar a tener unas semanas de vacaciones al año, ahorrar para cuando te jubiles y no poder disfrutar de ese dinero porque eres demasiado viajo.
Todas aquellas cosas que tenían que llegar y... ahora todo te da pereza.
Yo es que no estoy hecho para esta vida en la que la gran mayoría de personas que conozco están muertas en vida, que lo único que les motiva para levantarse por las mañanas son las facturas que tienen que pagar.
Luego los padres con: ¿qué harás cuando seas mayor?
Deja ya tus tonterías, ya harás lo que quieras cuando puedas pagarte tus propias cosas, tienes que ser una persona de provecho...
Vale, ahora eres un adulto, has hecho todo lo que se supone que deberías hacer y te reencuentras a un amigo que hace mucho que no ves y te pregunta:
– Hey! ¿qué tal?, cuánto tiempo... ¿qué es de tu vida?
Estoy seguro que le respondes sin pensar:
– Nada, estudiando, trabajando... lo de siempre.
Tanta gente se siente vacía, perdida, no saben qué camino tomar, están angustiadas porque el tiempo pasa y tienen que decidir si siguen estudiando, qué carrera tendrá más salidas, si se ponen a trabajar... para tener el futuro que quieren.
Pero... ¿cuál es el futuro que quieres?
No ese que te han metido en la cabeza de pequeño, sino ese futuro que quieres para ti.
Sabéis, una de las preguntas que más me han hecho a lo largo de mi vida es:
– ¿Qué no sabes hacer?
Mi respuesta es siempre la misma:
– Lo que todavía no me he propuesto aprender.
Por una vez trata de ser sincero contigo mismo. ¿A qué te dedicarías si pudieras elegir cualquier oficio sin importarte nada más que lo que deseas? ¿Quieres ser mozo de almacén, cajera de un supermercado, dependiente toda tu vida?
Probablemente no.
Seguramente te gustaría ser cantante, escritor, deportista profesional, tener tu estudio de tatuajes, chef de tu propio restaurante, trabajar viajando por el mundo...
Pero en lugar de eso tienes un montón de ideas y sueños que no los llevas a cabo por el qué dirán, porque tus padres prefieren que hagas otra cosa, te pones excusas y más escusas diciéndote a tu mismo: me falta dinero, me faltan medios para desarrollar mis ideas, pero en realidad... te pasa lo que le pasa a muchísima gente.
Lo que tienes es miedo.
Miedo a fracasar.
Dicen que la paciencia es la madre de cualquier ciencia, pero te aseguro que el tiempo corre sin importarle lo paciente que seas.
Mucha gente se sienta a esperar su tren pero cuando llega no saben reconocer si es el suyo y se quedan en el andén mientras ven como se cierran las puertas dejando una herida abierta.
El tren jamás pasó de vuelta.
Hay una estrofa de Rubén Darío que suele recitar mi abuela con Alzheimer cuando tiene sus momentos de lucidez que dice:
Juventud, divino tesoro, ¡ya te vas para no volver!
Cuando quiero llorar, no lloro... y a veces lloro sin querer...
Si tienes un sueño lucha por él ahora.
No esperes a un futuro que ni sabes si existe.
No sigas los consejos de gente que intenta darte clases de cómo triunfar en la vida cuando ellos han fracasado, sino fíjate en lo que hicieron mal para no cometer sus mismos errores.
Alguien dijo alguna vez: "
Solo podrás hacer realidad tus sueños si cuando llega la hora sabes estas despierto".
Tiene sentido, ¿no?
Sé por experiencia que nadar contra corriente es muy frustrante, que habrán muchísimos momentos que querrás mandarlo todo a la mierda, pero dime lo que realmente sientes cuando te hablas en frente del espejo y le intentas mentir a tu reflejo poniéndote ese disfraz de otro clon más con miedo a tomar las decisiones importantes para tu vida.
¿No te has sentido siempre raro, extraño, como si hubieras parado en la estación equivocada?
Pues si de verdad sientes que ese es tu tren, no esperes a que se cierren las puertas.
Si sigues luchando por lo que quieres... la alarma que tienes dentro de ti va a sonar tarde o temprano.
Si tienes miedo a caminar te fabricas tus alas, aprendes a volar y a decir adiós.
Porque lo sabes.
Sabes que lo único que realmente quieres es ser libre hasta el día que cierres los ojos por última vez.
Busca dentro de ti, solamente tú sabes lo que realmente quieres.
Tienes que dejar ya de esperar a que ocurra un milagro porque nadie va a tocar a tu puerta.

The Happiness Train

How many of you get up every day at the same time out of obligation, go to study or work in something you don't like?
And you repeat to yourself over and over again: it is what it is, as long as they pay... better times will come.
But the years go by and they never arrive.
Let's put ourselves in the best situation of the dream they sell us since we were little.
We finish our studies with good grades and find a stable 8-hour job with a salary that allows you to pay your rent or mortgage, have your dog, your cat, your giant TV, your car, your whims, your little things with your partner, okay... and now what?
You have 50-60 years ahead of you in which at most you can aspire to have a few weeks of vacation a year, save for when you retire and not be able to enjoy that money because you are too old.
All those things that had to come and... now everything makes you lazy.
I'm not made for this life in which the vast majority of people I know are dead in life, that the only thing that motivates them to get up in the mornings are the bills they have to pay.
Then the parents with: what will you do when you grow up?
Stop your nonsense, you'll do what you want when you can afford your own things, you have to be a worthwhile person...
Okay, now you're an adult, you've done everything you're supposed to do and you meet a friend you haven't seen in a long time and he asks you:
– Hey! how are you? long time no see... what's up with your life?
I'm sure you answer him without thinking:
– Nothing, studying, working... the usual.
So many people feel empty, lost, they don't know which path to take, they are distressed because time is passing and they have to decide whether to continue studying, which career will have more opportunities, if they start working... to have the future they want.
But... what is the future you want?
Not the one that they put in your head when you were little, but the future you want for yourself.
You know, one of the questions I've been asked the most throughout my life is:
– What don't you know how to do?
My answer is always the same:
– What I haven't set out to learn yet.
For once, try to be honest with yourself. What would you do if you could choose any profession without caring about anything other than what you want? Do you want to be a warehouse worker, a supermarket cashier, a clerk all your life?
Probably not.
Surely you would like to be a singer, a writer, a professional athlete, have your own tattoo studio, be the chef of your own restaurant, work traveling the world...
But instead you have a lot of ideas and dreams that you don't carry out because of what they will say, because your parents prefer that you do something else, you make excuses and more excuses telling yourself: I need money, I lack the means to develop my ideas, but in reality... what happens to you is what happens to a lot of people.
What you have is fear.
Fear of failure.
They say that patience is the mother of any science, but I assure you that time runs without caring how patient you are.
Many people sit down to wait for their train, but when it arrives they don't know how to recognize if it's theirs and they stay on the platform while they watch the doors close, leaving an open wound.
The train never came back.
There is a verse by Rubén Darío that my grandmother with Alzheimer's often recites when she has her moments of lucidity that says:
Youth, divine treasure, you are leaving never to return!
When I want to cry, I don't cry... and sometimes I cry without wanting to...
If you have a dream, fight for it now.
Don't wait for a future that you don't even know if it exists.
Don't follow the advice of people who try to give you lessons on how to succeed in life when they have failed, but rather look at what they did wrong so as not to make their same mistakes.
Someone once said: "
You can only make your dreams come true if when the time comes you know you are awake".
Makes sense, right?
I know from experience that swimming against the current is very frustrating, that there will be many moments when you will want to send everything to hell, but tell me what you really feel when you talk to yourself in front of the mirror and try to lie to your reflection by putting on that costume of another clone more afraid to make important decisions for your life.
Haven't you always felt weird, strange, as if you had stopped at the wrong station?
Well, if you really feel that this is your train, don't wait for the doors to close.
If you keep fighting for what you want... the alarm you have inside you is going to go off sooner or later.
If you are afraid to walk, you build your wings, you learn to fly and say goodbye.
Because you know it.
You know that the only thing you really want is to be free until the day you close your eyes for the last time.
Search within yourself, only you know what you really want.
You have to stop waiting for a miracle to happen because no one is going to knock on your door.
