The next one that we're gonna talk about is careless
And first of all I love the double word play in this song
I love careless as in reckless but then as a woman
Who's finally found the strength to walk away and could care less
Uh, so was that something that you went into writing the song
With that in your mind, like let's see if we can play on words
Or what inspired the song?

I remember this day very vividly
Emily Shackelton, she's a songwriter, Nashville
She co-wrote "Every Little Thing" with busbee and I
And I think everybody's heard me talk about
She's been writing with me for about five years now
So she is my go-to-girl writer and it was just she and I that day
We sat down and we were kind of weren't feeling it, but
We ordered Panera and sat there for a while, and
She started playing this thing on the piano on her little keyboard
And I was like, "Oh, I love that"

And she had this line, "The boy who cried love"
And I was like wow that is really awesome
And that song fell out in 45 minutes
We just started kinda singing it
And then the play on words as soon as we had the care less, careless thing
It just fell out, and we were like, "Huh, that might be too good to be true that it's
Maybe it's a bad song, we don't know", because, how did it come out that fast?

Uhm, but that was such a fun and, and live that song is fun to play
Well, yeah, and I would imagine that the response
Once people really begin to grasp the lyrics
Because I mean, in-in a way it's such an empowering song because it's like
Alright I finally have gathered my strength and I see through you
I'm not dealing with this anymore, uhm
And sort of a liberating and empowering song

Yeah, I think that every girl has been there
Where you keep going back to this guy even though, you know
You know he's reckless and bad and no good for you
And that moment where you can really stand up and say
"You know I'm not mad at you but I just, I
I literally could care less"
That's kinda like the ultimate revenge in my opinion

Well and you know it's interesting, I was thinking, uhm, there's a saying that I love
And it says, "The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference" (yeah)
Because it's just like, if there's hate, there's still emotion and there's still feeling
And once you just stop caring (yup), then that's the opposite of love
So let's go ahead and let everybody hear it

Und zuallererst liebe ich das doppelte Wortspiel in diesem Lied
Ich liebe „careless“ im Sinne von rücksichtslos, aber dann auch als eine Frau,
die endlich die Kraft gefunden hat wegzugehen und der es egaler nicht sein könnte („could care less“)
Äh, war das also etwas, womit du ins Songwriting gegangen bist,
mit diesem Gedanken im Kopf, so nach dem Motto, mal sehen, ob wir mit Worten spielen können
oder was hat das Lied inspiriert?

Ich erinnere mich sehr lebhaft an diesen Tag
Emily Shackelton, sie ist eine Songwriterin aus Nashville
Sie hat "Every Little Thing" zusammen mit busbee und mir geschrieben
Und ich glaube, jeder hat mich schon darüber sprechen hören,
sie schreibt seit etwa fünf Jahren mit mir
Sie ist also meine bevorzugte Songwriterin, und an diesem Tag waren es nur sie und ich
Wir setzten uns hin und waren irgendwie nicht so in Stimmung, aber
wir bestellten bei Panera und saßen eine Weile da, und
sie fing an, dieses Ding auf dem Klavier, auf ihrem kleinen Keyboard zu spielen
Und ich dachte mir: "Oh, das liebe ich"

Und sie hatte diese Zeile: "Der Junge, der Liebe schrie"
Und ich dachte wow, das ist wirklich großartig
Und dieses Lied entstand quasi in 45 Minuten
Wir fingen einfach an, es irgendwie zu singen
Und dann das Wortspiel, sobald wir diese „care less“, „careless“-Sache hatten
Es ergab sich einfach, und wir dachten: "Hm, das ist vielleicht zu gut, um wahr zu sein, dass es
vielleicht ist es ein schlechtes Lied, wir wissen es nicht", denn, wie konnte es so schnell entstehen?

Ähm, aber das hat so viel Spaß gemacht und, und live macht das Lied Spaß zu spielen
Nun ja, und ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass die Reaktion,
sobald die Leute den Text wirklich begreifen,
denn ich meine, auf gewisse Weise ist es so ein ermächtigendes Lied, weil es so ist wie
Okay, ich habe endlich meine Kraft gesammelt und ich durchschaue dich
Ich mache das nicht mehr mit, ähm
Und irgendwie ein befreiendes und ermächtigendes Lied

Ja, ich glaube, jedes Mädchen war schon mal in dieser Situation
Wo man immer wieder zu diesem Kerl zurückgeht, obwohl man weiß,
man weiß, er ist rücksichtslos und schlecht und tut einem nicht gut
Und dieser Moment, in dem man wirklich aufstehen und sagen kann
"Weißt du, ich bin nicht wütend auf dich, aber ich, ich
es ist mir buchstäblich total egal"
Das ist meiner Meinung nach irgendwie die ultimative Rache

Nun, und weißt du, es ist interessant, ich dachte, ähm, es gibt einen Spruch, den ich liebe
Und er lautet: "Das Gegenteil von Liebe ist nicht Hass, es ist Gleichgültigkeit" (ja)
Denn es ist einfach so, wenn Hass da ist, ist immer noch Emotion da und immer noch Gefühl
Und sobald es einem einfach egal wird (jep), dann ist das das Gegenteil von Liebe
