I am so excited to be talking to Carly 'cause it's like talking to a girlfriend
Just, you know, getting all the in and outs
That I can't get in anywhere else about this album
And the next song is "Feel Somethin'"

And the first thing I noticed about this song is the amount of words
That you're cramming into this verses
Was this one a difficult one to sing?
Because it's not your traditional sing song steady rhythm

So if you know anything about Natalie Hemby
You know that she is just a phrasing queen
And she knows, she just knows how to make things work
And I, if you can tell from everything else in my album
Come from a very country, bluegrass background
Where I, my drummer'll tell you, I sing way behind the beat
And they kinda sometimes have to push me and go "C'mon, c'mon, catch up"

And I felt like this song is just from a phrasing stand point
Was a great challenge for me (yeah) to kinda step out of my comfort zone
And do something that maybe is a little bit more difficult
And, and really challenge for myself
And I played this song for my mom when it was just the Natalie demo
And I remember her reaction
And she was like, "I know what this feels like"

And just everybody I've ever played this for, it's kinda like what you said earlier
Uhm, the opposite, I think you said the opposite of love-
(Yeah, the opposite of love isn't hate, it's difference)
Yeah, and to have somebody that you love, not give you anything back at all
We all wanna see whether it's fighting, crying, tears, laughter
You want emotion out of somebody and the worst thing is
You know there is a line and it says
"When did you stop tryin'? When did I become so comatose?"
And it's like "Ah, it's awful"

Yeah, that was a powerful, powerful line
Well and that, the thing for people who haven't heard the song
We're gonna play it but I mean it's basically about a couple
From what I, it sounded to me like they've been together a while

And they, there's just almost not even a pulse in the relationship (yeah)
Because they've just gotten so complacent, and
So many relationships are guilty of that
Whether it's just like you stop trying to impress them
You stop trying to care about how their day was
You're just, going through the motions
You could almost set a clock to boredom of (yeah)
What's happening in the relationship, and
I have a feeling a lot of people are gonna relate to this one

Und das Erste, was mir bei diesem Lied aufgefallen ist, ist die Menge an Wörtern
Die du in diese Strophen packst
War dieser schwer zu singen?
Weil er nicht deinen traditionellen Singsang-gleichmäßigen Rhythmus hat

Also, wenn du irgendetwas über Natalie Hemby weißt
Weißt du, dass sie einfach eine Phrasierungs-Königin ist
Und sie weiß, sie weiß einfach, wie man Dinge zum Funktionieren bringt
Und ich, falls du das an allem anderen auf meinem Album erkennen kannst
Komme aus einem sehr Country-, Bluegrass-Hintergrund
Wo ich, mein Schlagzeuger wird es dir erzählen, weit hinter dem Takt singe
Und sie müssen mich manchmal irgendwie anschieben und sagen „Komm schon, komm schon, hol auf“

Und ich fand, dass dieses Lied rein vom Phrasierungs-Standpunkt her
Eine große Herausforderung für mich war (ja), um irgendwie aus meiner Komfortzone herauszutreten
Und etwas zu tun, das vielleicht ein bisschen schwieriger ist
Und, und mich wirklich selbst herauszufordern
Und ich habe diesen Song meiner Mutter vorgespielt, als es nur das Demo von Natalie war
Und ich erinnere mich an ihre Reaktion
Und sie meinte so: „Ich weiß, wie sich das anfühlt“

Und einfach jeder, dem ich das je vorgespielt habe, es ist irgendwie so, wie du vorhin gesagt hast
Ähm, das Gegenteil, ich glaube, du sagtest, das Gegenteil von Liebe-
(Ja, das Gegenteil von Liebe ist nicht Hass, es ist Gleichgültigkeit)
Ja, und jemanden zu haben, den man liebt, der einem überhaupt nichts zurückgibt
Wir alle wollen etwas sehen, sei es Streiten, Weinen, Tränen, Lachen
Man will Emotionen von jemandem, und das Schlimmste ist
Weißt du, da gibt es eine Zeile, und die lautet
„Wann hast du aufgehört, es zu versuchen? Wann bin ich so komatös geworden?“
Und es ist so „Ah, es ist schrecklich“

Ja, das war eine starke, starke Zeile
Nun und das, die Sache für Leute, die das Lied nicht gehört haben
Wir werden es spielen, aber ich meine, es geht im Grunde um ein Paar
Nach dem, was ich gehört habe, klang es für mich, als wären sie schon eine Weile zusammen

Und sie, da ist einfach fast kein Puls mehr in der Beziehung (ja)
Weil sie einfach so selbstgefällig geworden sind, und
So viele Beziehungen machen sich dessen schuldig
Ob es nur darum geht, dass man aufhört, sie beeindrucken zu wollen
Man aufhört, sich darum zu kümmern, wie ihr Tag war
Man macht nur noch die Bewegungen mit
Man könnte fast eine Uhr nach der Langeweile stellen (ja)
Was in der Beziehung passiert, und
Ich habe das Gefühl, dass sich viele Leute damit identifizieren können
