'I've Been Good' is so sad, uh-huh
But I have loved this song for
Probably four years now
I heard it at a Writers Round
At Tin Roof here, Nashville
My friend Andy Albert, who's an amazing songwriter
Played it and I was in a relationship at the time
Was doing fine, everything was OK, but
Something about that song just really set me off
And I just had to have it so
I actually had that song on hold for that long
Until recently when I went in and cut it last year
The lyrics are just, again, so relatable
You know, you kind of dread that moment of running into somebody
And when you do you kind of have it rehearsed
You, you know you're gonna say that you're OK
That everything's fine, that you're going out with friends
You're doing this, you're doing that
But in reality you're still struggling
And you're still having a hard time
My favorite lyric is the hook at the end where it says
"I've been good at looking people in the eye, saying I've been good"
I think that that really puts the cherry on top of the message
It's exactly that, you know, I've mastered this art
And it's not a good thing, but I've mastered it
