That land where I lived and loved so much
To remember my first loves

On seeing my old home
I couldn't bear it and my tears fell
For today nothing remains of the mansion
And the mill's grinding wheels have crumbled
Only two coconut trees remain in the yard
That my father planted there one day
The other plants have also disappeared
I believe it was longing that killed them
My meadow where the partridge sang
My river Urú where I used to bathe
Today they can no longer make me happy
Not even the egrets want to live there anymore
I didn't find my heart's mother
Who I once saw crying because I was leaving
I wish she would forgive me now
But heaven has given her another home
It would have been good if I had never left
For I didn't want to suffer my life too
In every corner I found longing
For the beautiful days of my dear childhood
