Ruusun punaisen hän toi,
Ojentaessaan sen sanoi:
"Katso kukkaa loistavaa,

Vasts hän siihen sanoin:
"Siks tän ruusun mukaani toin.
Ei se vaan itseään iloiseks′ tee,
Molemmat meist' nyt hymyilee."
"Huulillesi ruusunpunan
Saanhan nostattaa?
Ja piikkejäsi helliä,
Kunnes ne enää kutittaa.
Jos rakkautta hehkut
Ja loistollas' valaiset myös mut,
Miten aikani ois,
Miten aikani ois
Mennyt hukkaan?"
Ei antautunut toinen viel′,
Epäily oli onnen tiel′.
"Entä jos en kukkan puhkea?
En olekaan niin rohkea?"
Vastaus oli valmiina:
"Jo pidän sua kauniina.
Tärkeintä kanssas' kasvu on
Tai jokainen ois kukaton."
"Ja huulillesi ruusunpunan
Tahdon nostattaa.
Ja piikkejäsi helliä,
Kunnes ne enää kutittaa.
Rakaudella ruokkia,
Iltaisin sulle puhella.
Ja jonain aamuna,
Jonain aamuna,
Puhkeat kukkaan."

Sleeping Beauty

He brought me a crimson rose,
