The Engine was blood it was sweaty and damp
And brilliantly lit with a brimstone lamp
And the imps for fuel was shoveling bones
While the furnace rang with a Thousand... Groans...
The boiler was filled with lager beer
The Devil himself was the engineer
The passengers were mostly Motley Crew
Some wer'e foreigners and others he knew
Rich men in broadcloth, beggars in rags
Pretty young ladies and wicked Old hags
As the train rushed on at a terrible pace
Sulphuric fumes scorched their hands n face
Wider and wider the country grew
Faster and faster the engine flew
Louder and louder the Thunder crashed
Brighter and brighter the lightning flashed
Hotter and hotter the air became
Till their clothes were burned with each quivering refrain
Then out of the distance there came a yell
Ha-Ha said the devil wer'e nearing home
Oh how the passengers shrieked with pain
They begged old satin to... stop... that... train...
The stranger awoke with an anguished cry
His clothes wet with sweat and his hair standing high
He fell on his knees on the bar room floor
And prayed a prayer like never before
And the prayers and vows were not in vain
For a never wrote that down... bound... train...

Certains étaient des étrangers et d'autres il les connaissait
Des hommes riches en drap, des mendiants en haillons
De jolies jeunes filles et de méchantes vieilles sorcières
Alors que le train fonçait à une vitesse terrible
Les fumées sulfureuses brûlaient leurs mains et leurs visages
Le pays s'étendait de plus en plus
Le moteur filait de plus en plus vite
Le tonnerre grondait de plus en plus fort
L'éclair brillait de plus en plus fort
L'air devenait de plus en plus chaud
Jusqu'à ce que leurs vêtements soient brûlés à chaque refrain tremblant
Puis, au loin, un cri s'est fait entendre
Ha-Ha, dit le diable, nous approchons de la maison
Oh, comment les passagers ont crié de douleur

L'étranger s'est réveillé avec un cri d'angoisse
