No parking Wednesdays at noon and the garbage lines the streets
A cereal box with cartoons and a price tag way too steep
And a fence that leans to the south around a yard with specks of grass
And a dog with more teeth than mouth chained up sifting through trash
That ice cream truck rolls too slow and the picture's black and white
And the cabin up back still ain't cold and it's mostly out at night
And there ain't no kids where it go and it don't play music right
And a kid with a hoodie looks old under the traffic light
That liquor store sells Patron but it just sits on the shelf
And that Steel Reserve in the back practically sells itself
And the Arab up at the front don't ever touch the stuff
Single Swishers and blunts in a package opened up
And a white tee XXXL make the men on the corners look tough

And the men on the corners have lines and the women walk by straight
Bold black and red for sale signs posted up on the gates
Of every other Victorian with wood over the windows
And someone converses about Jordan's while wearing last year's Timbo's
And a Chinese takeout menu decorates the gates with symbols
And the cats are feral and fat and unreasonably nimble
The trash is full to the top no cans or bottles in it
Big bags being dragged down the street clanging and leaking liquid
Expired tags on a Buick with one rim all in chrome
And an older woman in stretch pants shuffles along too slow
Pieces of flowers and a poem falling off a flickering light pole
And a picture of someone it seems somebody used to know
And a buzz in the air from a congregation of telephone wires

And on the wires are birds sitting tiny and black
And tennis shoes from the 90's looking fine and intact
And a cable awkwardly hanging never reaching a house
And below it a stained up and soggy formerly leather couch
And rainbow patterns of oil pooling in potholed cement
And a screen door with no hinges hanging hopelessly bent
And a Bentley dressing the cover of a car magazine
And a Price Is Right crowd cheering on a television screen
With a big bat jutting out and the color mostly green
And a stove where one burner works and the oven should be cleaned
And coupons clipped on the table waiting to be redeemed
And a siren sings long and deep and the chopper's double meaned
And the median is asleep so to wake and walk at strange things

Pas de parking le mercredi à midi et les poubelles bordent les rues
Une boîte de céréales avec des dessins animés et une étiquette de prix beaucoup trop chère
Et une clôture qui penche vers le sud autour d'une cour avec des touffes d'herbe
Et un chien avec plus de dents que de bouche enchaîné en train de fouiller dans les ordures
Ce camion de crème glacée roule trop lentement et la photo est en noir et blanc
Et la cabane au fond n'est toujours pas froide et elle est surtout ouverte la nuit
Et il n'y a pas d'enfants là où ça va et ça ne joue pas de la musique correctement
Et un enfant avec un sweat à capuche a l'air vieux sous le feu rouge
Ce magasin d'alcool vend du Patron mais il reste juste sur l'étagère
Et cette Steel Reserve à l'arrière se vend presque toute seule
Et l'Arabe à l'avant ne touche jamais à la chose
Des Swishers et des blunts simples dans un paquet ouvert
Et un tee-shirt blanc XXXL rend les hommes aux coins de rue plus durs

Et les hommes aux coins de rue ont des lignes et les femmes passent tout droit
Des panneaux "À vendre" en noir et rouge gras affichés sur les grilles
De chaque seconde maison victorienne avec du bois sur les fenêtres
Et quelqu'un discute de Jordan en portant des Timbo's de l'année dernière
Et un menu de plats à emporter chinois décore les grilles avec des symboles
Et les chats sont sauvages et gros et anormalement agiles
La poubelle est pleine à ras bord, pas de canettes ni de bouteilles dedans
De gros sacs traînés dans la rue qui résonnent et qui fuient du liquide
Des plaques d'immatriculation périmées sur une Buick avec une jante entièrement chromée
Et une femme âgée en pantalon de survêtement se traîne trop lentement
Des morceaux de fleurs et un poème qui tombent d'un lampadaire vacillant
Et une photo de quelqu'un que quelqu'un semble avoir connu
Et un bourdonnement dans l'air provenant d'une congrégation de fils téléphoniques

Et sur les fils se perchent des oiseaux, minuscules et noirs
Et des chaussures de tennis des années 90 qui ont l'air bien et intactes
Et un câble qui pend maladroitement sans jamais atteindre une maison
Et en dessous, un canapé en cuir autrefois taché et détrempé
Et des motifs arc-en-ciel d'huile qui stagnent dans le ciment troué
Et une porte moustiquaire sans charnières qui pend désespérément pliée
Et une Bentley habillant la couverture d'un magazine automobile
Et une foule de "Le Prix est Juste" qui applaudit sur un écran de télévision
Avec une grosse batte qui dépasse et la couleur est surtout verte
Et une cuisinière où un seul brûleur fonctionne et le four devrait être nettoyé
Et des coupons coupés sur la table en attendant d'être utilisés
Et une sirène chante longuement et profondément et l'hélicoptère a une double signification
Et le terre-plein est endormi, donc se réveiller et marcher sur des choses étranges
