And we all was like
Man, what if we got John and maybe, Karriem mention
What if we got John Legend to sing it
I think one of us mentioned it

And I sent it to John
And John was like
Man, I love this song
'Cause it was very new and different for
For any album that I've done
And anything different than John and I done
So I think John was pleasantly surprised
And when I said to him

Let's try to do another glory
Let's do, they say, you know
It was just like, no
This was the fresh song he loved
He said I loved the song
I was like, "Yes"

So he did it and I started writing my verse
And I was just talking about
Because the song is about
Following your dreams and going through
Uhm, going through with your dreams even if it rains
You're talking about getting to California

So I kinda was talking
In my verse about
Even if the rain comes down the rain is the cleanser thing
It's gonna cleanse you
I think we gonna deal with the rain

And uhm, you know so
The song definitely has the spirit on it's own
It's just
It makes me think of a movie or something like

Seinem Vater, Emmanuel Riggins

Nun, Karriem Riggins hat das ganze Album alleine produziert
mit Robert Glasper
Sein Vater, Emmanuel Riggins, starb im Mai 2015

Karriem und ähm
sein Vater war ein großartiger Musiker
Nun, du weißt ja, und Karriem hat offensichtlich
etwas davon geerbt
Aber sein Vater hinterließ etwas Musik

Und dieses Lied wurde von Karriems Vater geschrieben
Über Emmanuel Riggins
irgendwie in den 1960er Jahren
Und als Karriem es mir vorspielte, dachte ich:

allem, worüber ich nachdachte, das ist

Ich glaube, einer von uns hat es erwähnt

Und ich schickte es John
Und John sagte:
Mann, ich liebe dieses Lied
Weil es sehr neu und anders war für
jedes Album, das ich gemacht habe
Und alles anders als das, was John und ich gemacht haben
Also denke ich, John war angenehm überrascht
Und als ich zu ihm sagte
