Just the other night at a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine

And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall

And as she walked away and I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the good Lord
For the gifts in my life

Как-то вечером, на игре в родном городе,
Мы с женой столкнулись с моей школьной любовью.
Я их представил, и прошлое нахлынуло,
Я невольно вспомнил, как всё раньше было.

Она была той, кого я желал всегда,
Каждую ночь молил, чтобы Бог свёл нас тогда.
Если бы он исполнил желание моё,
Больше б ни о чём его не просил я своё.

Иногда благодарю я Бога за то, что не все молитвы он слышит,
Помни, когда ты с небесами говоришь,
Что, если он молчит - это не значит, что он равнодушен,
Ненужные молитвы - одни из величайших его даров.

Она не была ангелом, как мне представлялось во снах,
И я видел, что время изменило и нас.
В её глазах я заметил то же,
Мы пытались говорить о прошлом,
Но вспомнить почти ничего не смогли,
Господь знает, что делает, я убедился вдали.

Она ушла, а я посмотрел на жену,
И в тот момент возблагодарил судьбу
За все дары, что в моей жизни нашлись.

Иногда благодарю я Бога за то, что не все молитвы он слышит,
Помни, когда ты с небесами говоришь,
Что, если он не отвечает - это не значит, что он равнодушен,
