I know well this little Mindelo
I know well the pleasures of our land
I know well this paradise where I grew up
That our poets sing about with love
In their immortal Creole verse
Whoever doesn't know Mindelo
Doesn't know Cape Verde
I have savored the kindness
Of these unmatched open people
It's true we don't have riches
We don't have gold, we don't have diamonds
But we have this peace from God
