Et tous les jours je m'y promène

Retrouver mes copains, tous mes poètes

J'habite Saint germain des près
J′ai 18 ans et je trouve la vie belle
Dans une chambre très serrée
Je fais des rêves qui me donne des ailes
J′aime rencontrer au détour d'une rue
Le regard d′une belle inconnue
Elle me plait, je lui plait, il faut qu'on parle
Tous les soirs dans un cabaret
Le jazz est devenu mon exutoire
Le public semble intéressé
Si c′était le debut de mon histoire
Je ne l'ai pas encore dis à maman

Je veux vivre de mes sentiments
Je veux jouer et chanter, la vie d′artiste
Mon premier amour
C'est ici que tu as pris ma main
Qu'ensemble on a fait notre chemin
Mais mon dieu, comme le temps passe
Un jour des gens sont arrivés
Ils étaient riches et jaloux de nos rêves
De nos chambres ils nous ont chassé
Pour y mettre leur petit millionnaires
Qui étouffaient au fond de leur ennui
Et pensaient qu′en habitant ici
Il pourraient s′acheter une existence
Peu à peu ils ont remplacé
Nos livres qui étaient plein de nos rêves
Par du tissu bien ficelés
Des habits qui sont des caches misères
Vous mes poètes, mes peintres, mes fous
Où êtes vous j'ai besoin de vous
Mais tans pis c′est la vie, il faut que je m'y fasse

Les démagos ont tout brûlé
La flore est devenue un cimetière
Où contre le prix d′un café
Un court instant on peut se croire poète
Pourtant c'était là que tout à commencé
Que le monde c′est remis à penser
Mais tans pis c'est fini, comme le temps passe
J'habitais Saint germain des près
Aujourd′hui j′y habite avec ma tête
Pour moi ce n'est plus qu′une idée
Que Paris sera toujours une fête

I used to live in Saint Germain des près
And every day I would walk there
Rue Jacob to the old colombier
I would say hello to all the people I love
I loved to walk along the quays
To climb back up to Saint Germain des près
To meet up with my friends, all my poets

I used to live in Saint Germain des près
I was 18 and I thought life was beautiful
In a very cramped room
I would have dreams that would give me wings
I loved to meet a beautiful stranger
At the turn of a street
I liked her, she liked me, we had to talk
Every night in a cabaret
Jazz became my outlet
The audience seemed interested
If this was the beginning of my story
I haven't told my mom yet

I want to live off my feelings
I want to play and sing, the life of an artist
My first love
It is here that you took my hand
That together we made our way
But my god, how time flies
One day some people arrived
They were rich and jealous of our dreams
They chased us out of our rooms
To put their little millionaires in there
Who were suffocating in their boredom
And thought that by living here
They could buy themselves an existence
Little by little they replaced
Our books that were full of our dreams
By tightly woven fabric
Clothes that are miserly hiding places
You my poets, my painters, my fools
Where are you, I need you
But too bad that's life, I have to get used to it

The demagogues have burned everything
The flowerbeds have become a cemetery
Where for the price of a coffee
For a short time you can think you're a poet
Yet that's where it all began
That the world started thinking again
But too bad it's over, as time goes by
I used to live in Saint Germain des près
Today I live there with my head
For me it's just an idea
That Paris will always be a party
