این چه شوری است که در دور قمر می بینم
همه آفاق پر از فتنه و شر می بینم
هر کسی روز بهی می طلبد از ایام
علت آنست که هر روز بتر می بینم
ابلهان را همه شربت ز گلاب و قند است
بوته دانا همه از خون جگر می بینم
اسب تازی شده مجروح به زیر پالان
طوق زرین همه بر گردن خر می بینم
این چه شوری است که در دور قمر می بینم
همه آفاق پر از فتنه و شر می بینم
دختران را همه در جنگ و جدل با مادر
پسران را همه بدخواه پدر می بینم
هیچ رحمی نه برادر به برادر دارد
هیچ شفقت نه پدر را به پسر می بینم
پند حافظ بشنو خواجه برو نیکی کن
که من این پند به از گنج و گهر می بینم

The whole world is filled with strife and evil
Everyone wants good days
But I see things getting worse every day
Fools only seek pleasure in wine and sugar
But the wise are filled with pain
The Arabian horse is wounded beneath its saddle
While the donkey wears a golden collar

Sons are enemies of their fathers
Brothers have no mercy for each other
Fathers show no love for their sons
Listen to my advice, my friend: do good
For I see that this advice is worth more than gold and jewels
