Ein Wand'rer müd' vom Wandern hing
Am Berge fest, dem Semmering.
Und weil vor ihm ein Gasthof lag,
Betrat er diesen mit "Grüß Tag!".
"Grüß Tag' gibt's nicht Grüß Gott' gibt's wohl
Und weiter's gäb's heut Blumenkohl",
Bemerkt der Wirt mit Zungenschlag,
Was wohl am Wein, den jungen lag
Von dem bei jedem Gang zu Gaste
Er selbst sich einen Schluck verpasste.
"Ja beim Schenken an den Schanken
Kommen meistens die ins Wanken,
Die berufsbedingt erkranken
An der Leber und so weiter",
Das war'n des Wandersmanns Gedanken.
Doch im Grunde nahm er's heiter.
Ob nun "Grüß Tag" oder "Grüß Gott",
Der Wand'rer meint er würde not-
Gedrungen schnell ein Helles brauchen,
Weil Gurgel ihm wie Füße rauchten.
"Jawohl, der Herr!", der Wirt leckt Lippe
Und führt die Hand zur Hopfenpipe.
Doch der Zapfhahn spuckt und pfaucht,
Was heißt, das Bier ist aufgebraucht.
Der Wirt schreit: "Leute, lasst Euch sagen!
Ein neues Fass wird angeschlagen!"
Und verschwindet in der Enge
Tiefer steiler Kellergänge.
Von unten hört man ein Rumoren
Als würde neu es grad' vergoren
Das begehrte kühle Nass',
Das zu ordern man vergas.
Dann ein lautes: "So ein Schaß!"

Der Schankmann findet außer Asseln
Nur noch leere Gerstenfasseln.
Und die nächste Hopfenwelle
Kommt zum Berg nicht auf die Schnelle.
Sie rollt als Krone aller Sorgen
Ein erst wenn dann übermorgen.
Daran ändert auch nicht viel
Das kellerdumpfe Wirtgebrüll:
"Leckt's mi! So ein Schaß!"
