Lo sguardo fatto di poesia
E quella sua malinconia
E quella timidezza,
Dava una tenerezza strana.
Dietro alle tende c′era lei
Più consapevole che mai,
Che si stava innamorando
Senza sapere quando e come.
Mentre passava lo guardava
Con il cuore impazzito:
Se l'amore non è ricambiato
Diventa follia.
E per la strada lo cercava
Come fosse un bambino.
Se l′amore consuma vicino
è un amore che dura di meno,
Ma l'amore ha bisogno di spazio,
L'amore respira,
L′amore va via.
Girano i giorni e il calendario
Come dei grani di un rosario;
Lei lo seguiva ancora
Come la luna con l′aurora.
Come la luna tramontava
Alla luce del giorno,
Certi amori non hanno ritorno
Ma non muoiono mai.
E nella notte lo vedeva
Come fosse un miraggio.
Cercava di mettersi in viaggio,
Raggiungerlo e fargli coraggio
Ma l'amore ha bisogno di fiato:
L′amore respira,
L'amore va via.
E Marta conserva una fotografia,
Marta prepara un caffè,
Marta raccoglie i pensieri
E li tiene con sé.
Marta coltiva una rosa per lui,
Marta che vive a metà,
Marta che adesso sorride
E domani chissà.
Marta con tutto quel mare che c′è,
Marta che parla con Dio,
Marta che scivola piano
E si sente il fruscìo

Marta Who Talks to God

A gaze crafted of poetry
And that melancholy of hers
And that shyness,
It gave off a strange tenderness.
Hidden behind the curtains, there she was,
More self-aware than ever,
That she was falling in love
Without knowing when or how.
As he walked by, she watched,
Her heart pounding:
If the affection is not returned
It becomes folly.
And in the streets, she sought after him
Like he was a little child.
If the flame burns too near,
It's a love that will fade sooner,
But affection needs space,
Love lives by breathing,
It will wander away.
The days and the calendar spin by
Like the beads of a rosary;
Still, she followed him closely
Like the moon follows the dawn.
Just as the moon fades
With the dawning of day,
There are some loves that don't return,
But they never die.
And in the night, she would see him
As if he were a mirage.
She tried to embark on a journey,
To reach him, to give him courage,
But affection needs space to breathe:
Love lives by breathing,
It will wander away.
And Marta holds onto a photograph,
Marta prepares a coffee,
Marta gathers her thoughts
And holds them close.
Marta tends a rose for him,
Marta who lives halfway
Marta who smiles now
And who knows about tomorrow.
Marta with all that sea within,
Marta who talks to God,
Marta who quietly slips away
And her rustling can be heard.
