I've been trying to learn which bird I heard was singing
And you might think that that's not cool but who cares
Bird watching's in my family, my Grandad I never knew
Used to watch and paint them I've got some that he drew
My Dad birdwatched to connect with him when he passed
And when I was a kid, do you think I gave a crap?
But then he passed and I see what the fuss is about
Massive thing in the sky is a buzzard no doubt
Red kite: forked tail, hangs in the air
Anything big that aren't them two it's probably rare
I obsess over swifts, they land before summer
Each year they come over they're decreasing in number
Welled up more than once watching them scream at each other
Zipping overhead collecting their fly supper
I'm a sucker for a nuthatch, a sucker for a robin
Love hearing a tawny owl, don't see them very often
Ange got the bird seed filled to the brim
Got them anti-squirrel feeders cos those guys were going in
And get great spotted woodpeckers
When they attacked our bird box full of blue tits it upset us
Suppose, that's how nature goes, innit

Once we had a sparrowhawk eating a pigeon
I scared it off by accident, trying to get a picture
Pigeon wasn't quite dead so I had to kill it
Stamped on its head, at first didn't quite get it
Worst moments of my life, that'll make the edit
But good to know there's birds of prey doing their thing
Hate hearing stories of farmers persecuting them
So many species declining due to habitat disturbance
But British buy more bird food than anyone in Europe
So with a little bit more interest in avian life
We might undo some damage instead of paying the price
Get your RSPB membership and take it for hikes
Get some cheap binoculars, do summat you may even like
People act like it's frigging train spotting
But I genuinely believe hearing bird song is pain stopping
Just listening's superb, even in the 'burbs
Rap and ornithology, I'm fine with being a nerd

J'essaie d'apprendre quel oiseau chantait
Et tu pourrais penser que ce n'est pas cool, mais qui s'en soucie
L'observation des oiseaux est dans ma famille, mon grand-père que je n'ai jamais connu
Il observait et les peignait, j'en ai quelques-uns qu'il a dessinés
Mon père observait les oiseaux pour se connecter avec lui après son décès
Et quand j'étais enfant, tu penses que je m'en fichais ?
Mais ensuite il est mort et je comprends ce qu'il se passe
Une chose massive dans le ciel, c'est un busard, sans aucun doute
Milan royal : queue fourchue, plane dans les airs
Tout ce qui est grand et qui n'est pas l'un de ces deux est probablement rare
Je suis obsédé par les martinets, ils arrivent avant l'été
Chaque année, ils arrivent, ils sont de moins en moins nombreux
J'ai pleuré plus d'une fois en les regardant crier l'un contre l'autre
Ils filent au-dessus de nos têtes, collectant leur souper volant
Je suis un fan de grimpereaux, un fan de rouge-gorges
J'adore entendre une chouette hulotte, je ne les vois pas souvent
Ange a rempli la mangeoire à oiseaux jusqu'aux bords
On a des mangeoires anti-écureuils parce que ces types venaient souvent
Et on a des pics épeiches
Quand ils ont attaqué notre nichoir plein de mésanges bleues, ça nous a énervé
Supposons que c'est comme ça que la nature fonctionne, hein

Une fois, on a eu un épervier qui mangeait un pigeon
Je l'ai fait fuir par accident, en essayant de prendre une photo
Le pigeon n'était pas tout à fait mort, j'ai donc dû le tuer
Je lui ai marché sur la tête, au début, je n'ai pas tout compris
Les pires moments de ma vie, ça sera dans le montage
Mais c'est bon de savoir qu'il y a des oiseaux de proie qui font leur travail
Je déteste entendre des histoires d'agriculteurs qui les persécutent
Tant d'espèces en déclin à cause de la perturbation de l'habitat
Mais les Britanniques achètent plus de nourriture pour oiseaux que toute autre nation en Europe
Donc, avec un peu plus d'intérêt pour la vie aviaire
On pourrait réparer certains dommages au lieu de payer le prix
Prends ton abonnement à la RSPB et fais des randonnées
Prends des jumelles pas chères, fais quelque chose que tu pourrais même aimer
Les gens agissent comme si c'était de l'observation de trains, putain
Mais je crois sincèrement que le chant des oiseaux est apaisant
L'écoute est excellente, même dans les banlieues
Le rap et l'ornithologie, je n'ai aucun problème à être un geek
