Zimmer ohne Zeit

Ich bin noch ziemlich klein, als ich merk', mir geht das Ticken auf den Geist.
Jede Uhr wird an Wände geschmissen, bis sie schweigt.
In meinem Kinderzimmer schleicht sich kein Ziffernblatt mehr ein.
Hier bin ich frei. Ich taufe es mein Zimmer ohne Zeit.

Zwölf Quadratmeter sind mir nicht zu klein.
Die Gedanken fliegen unendlich weit.
Wenn draußen Tag für Tag verstreicht, wie in Lichtgeschwindigkeit,
Hab' ich immerhin hier drinnen noch irgendwas, das bleibt.

Schule läuft so nebenbei, schaff' es erst zu Stunde zwei.
"Tut mir leid, ich war im Zimmer ohne Zeit."
Den Ranzen nehm' ich nicht mit rein. Auch wenn sie meinen, ich lerne heimlich:
Nein, die Einsen schreiben sich wie von allein.

Und komm' ich dann heim, riecht es nach Streit. Türen, die knallen, lautes Geschrei.
Schleich' mich leise in mein Zimmer ohne Zeit.
"Wir gehen jetzt raus. Die Sonne scheint, bist du dabei?"
Ist nett gemeint, doch alles weitere ersticke ich schon im Keim.

"Gehst du da drin nicht langsam ein? Wir fragen uns, was du da treibst,
So ganz allein." - Ich halt' es lieber noch geheim.
Als ob das irgendwer begreift. Ich such' nach Reimen
Und jedes Lied, das mich begeistert, wird siziert und studiert bis ins Detail.

Familienhaus mit acht Parteien, Nachbarn drohen mit Polizei.
"Was fällt Ihrem Sohn nur ein, so laut zu sein?"
Ich weiß: Mittagsruhe, zwölf bis drei. Tut mir leid.
Das einzuhalten ist nicht so leicht in so 'nem Zimmer ohne Zeit.

Zu schwach für Schulhofschlägereien, kein Bock auf Fußball im Verein.
Und draußen zieht ganz nebenbei meine Jugend an mir vorbei.
Sie klopft dann kurz mal an die Tür, fragt mich: "Mann, was machst du hier?"
Ich trink ein Bier mit ihr, doch muss dann wieder rein.

Das eine Mädchen bricht das Eis. Verträumter Typ, was der wohl treibt?
Sie gibt so lange nicht klein bei, bis sie es weiß.
Ich lass sie rein, sie lässt mich rein. Mein erstes Mal, es ist soweit
Und schon vorbei. Zum Glück im Zimmer ohne Zeit.

Die Lieder zieh'n so ihren Kreis, spiel' am Wochenende live.
Die Klamotten viel zu weit. Lokaler Star und Freak zugleich
Zwischen TRL auf eins und Musterungsbescheid.
So vermiss' ich immer öfter mein Zimmer ohne Zeit.

Ich bin noch nicht bereit dafür, dass die Verbindung langsam reißt.
Aber mein winzigkleines Reich verliert so seinen Reiz.
Pack alles, was mir eigentlich so heilig ist, in Kisten ein,
Zieh' nach Berlin und die Geschichte ist vorbei.

Und komm' ich heut' mal zu Besuch, ist hier nichts mehr wirklich gleich.
Doch jeder Winkel setzt Erinnerungen frei.
Stell' den Wecker vor die Tür, häng' die Uhr von der Wand,
Dann ist es fast, als würd' es immernoch so sein.

Room Without Time

I'm still pretty young when I realize that the ticking is getting to me.
Every clock is thrown against the walls until it goes quiet.
No clock face dares to enter my childhood room anymore.
Here I am free. I christen it my room without time.

Twelve square meters are not too small for me.
Thoughts fly infinitely far.
While outside day by day passes as if at the speed of light,
At least here inside I still have something that remains.

School runs on the side, I only make it to second period.
"Sorry, I was in the room without time."
I don't take my backpack inside. Even if they think I'm secretly studying:
No, the A's write themselves as if by magic.

And when I come home, it smells like arguments. Doors slamming, loud yelling.
I sneak quietly into my room without time.
"We're going out now. The sun is shining, are you coming?"
It's meant nicely, but I stifle everything else in the bud.

"Aren't you going slowly crazy in there? We wonder what you're up to,
All alone." - I'd rather keep it a secret for now.
As if anyone would understand. I look for rhymes
And every song that inspires me is dissected and studied down to the last detail.

Apartment building with eight parties, neighbors threaten with the police.
"How dare your son be so loud?"
I know: Quiet time, twelve to three. Sorry.
It's not that easy to keep in such a room without time.

Too weak for schoolyard fights, no desire for football in the club.
And outside, quite incidentally, my youth passes me by.
She knocks on the door for a moment, asks me: "Man, what are you doing here?"
I have a beer with her, but then I have to go back in.

That one girl breaks the ice. Dreamy guy, what is he up to?
She doesn't give up until she knows.
I let her in, she lets me in. My first time, it's time
And over already. Luckily in the room without time.

The songs make their rounds, I play live on the weekend.
The clothes far too wide. Local star and freak at the same time
Between TRL at one and draft notice.
That's how I miss my room without time more and more often.

I'm not ready for the connection to slowly break.
But my tiny little kingdom is losing its charm.
I pack everything that's actually so sacred to me into boxes,
Move to Berlin and the story is over.

And when I come to visit today, nothing here is really the same anymore.
But every corner triggers memories.
I put the alarm clock in front of the door, hang the clock off the wall,
Then it's almost as if it would always be that way.

Room without time.
