Cosa vuol dire aver un metro e mezzo di statura,
Te lo rivelan gli occhi e le battute della gente,
E la curiosita' di qualche ragazza impertinente,
Che ti avvicina solo per un suo dubbio impertinente:
Vuole saper se e' vero quel che si dice intorno ai nani,
Che siano i piu' forniti della virtu' meno apparente,
Fra tutte le virtu' la piu' indecente.
Passano gli anni i mesi, e se li conti anche i minuti.
E' triste ritrovarsi adulti senza essere cresciuti,
La maldicenza insiste, batte la lingua sul tamburo,
Fino a dire che un nano e' una carogna di sicuro,
Perche' ha il cuore troppo troppo vicino al buco del culo.
Fu nelle notti insonni vegliate al lume del rancore
Che preparai gli esami e diventai procuratore,
Per imboccare la strada che dalle panche di una cattedrale
Porta alla sacrestia quindi alla cattedra di un tribunale:
Giudice finalmente, arbitro in terra del bene e del male.
E allora la mia statura non dispenso' dal buonumore
A chi alla sbarra in piedi diceva "Vostro Onore"
E di affidarli al boia con un piacere del tutto mio,
Prima di genuflettermi nell'ora dell'addio,
Non conoscendo affatto la statura di Dio

The Judge

What does it mean to be five feet tall,
Your eyes and the jokes of people will tell you,
And the curiosity of some impertinent girl,
Who approaches you only for her impertinent doubt:
She wants to know if it's true what they say about dwarfs,
That they are the most endowed with the least apparent virtue,
Among all the virtues the most indecent.
Years and months pass by, and if you count them, even minutes.
It's sad to find yourself an adult without having grown,
Malicious gossip insists, beating its tongue on the drum,
Until it's said that a dwarf is a sure-fire scumbag,
Because his heart is too close to his asshole.
It was during sleepless nights watched by the light of resentment
That I prepared for my exams and became a prosecutor,
To take the road that leads from the benches of a cathedral
To the sacristy and then to the chair of a courtroom:
Finally a judge, an earthly arbiter of good and evil.
And so my stature did not dispense with good humor
To those who stood at the bar and said "Your Honor"
And to entrust them to the executioner with a pleasure that was all mine,
Before genuflecting in the hour of farewell,
Not knowing the stature of God at all
