La Isla

Vendrá el día en que todo pase,
Y en que allá en otras arenas,
Donde vuelva yo a través
De la distancia y las mareas.

¿Quién vendrá para esperarme?
¿Quién habrá quedado al fin?
Y la espuma me contesta:
No te dejare partir.

Bien que sepa que he aprendido
Tanto de estas soledades,
Que me bastará un recuerdo
Para conjurar los males.

Cuando el viento de otras noches
Más dichosas me acaricie
La brisa que habla en mi oído
No me dejarás, me dice,
Y recorro el horizonte,
Y me pierdo en el camino,
Y me baño entre las olas,
Y al final siempre es el mismo
Caminante que regresa
Sin saber que espera aquí,
Y la arena se me enreda y dice:
No te irás de mí.

Cuando en lo alto de la noche
Brilla a ratos el zafiro
Luminoso de tu estrella
Y la llamo mía, y le escribo,
Como quisiera alcanzarte
Desde este reino de sal,
Y una nube pasa y dice
Tú jamás serás ya igual.

¡Ay mi amor si tú supieras!
Todo lo que me hace en falta,
Tu mirada y tu sonrisa,

The Island

The day will come when everything passes,
And that there on other sands,

And I walk the horizon,
And I get lost on the way,
And I bathe in the waves,
And in the end it is always the same
Wanderer who returns
Without knowing what awaits here,
And the sand gets tangled around me and says:
You will not leave me.

When at the height of the night
Shines at times the sapphire
Luminous your star
And I call it mine, and I write to it,
As I would like to reach you
From this realm of salt,
And a cloud passes and says
You will never be the same again.

Oh my love if you only knew!
All that I lack,
Your gaze and your smile,
And your hand in the mornings,
If you were to know even more

But, the island, won't let me go.
