Después de los incidentes
Que hasta aquí hemos referido
Quise decir poco más
De ese juglar del camino.
Para que sepa la corte
De la clase de sujetos
Que deambulan por el mundo
Con pasos largos e inquietos.
Indagué entre los registros
Y entre los covachuelistas,
Que anotan y llevan cuenta
De los nobles.
Y en las listas nunca hallé
Entre tantos nombres
El de Bruno del Breñal.
Y a punto ya de olvidarle,
Me hallé a un tal
Brunildo Breño,
Hijo de un conde magnate
Y de varias provincias dueño.
Que abandonó sus riquezas
Por los que algunos opinan
Andar mal de la cabeza.
Tras un obsesivo sueño
Dejó palacio y tesoros,
Estudios, festines y oro,
Por la vida en los caminos.
Queriendo ilustrar destinos
De los seres ordinarios.
Y en verdad no ocurre a diario
Que hombre con tantos dineros
Pase hambre entre los austeros,
Pudiendo engordar a varios.
Pero en fin, que eso no es cosa mía
Si no de ese ser
Que a pesar de mis pesquisas
Tiempo ha que no he vuelto a ver.
Sé que dejó su castillo
En una noche de locura.
Que a todos mostró la lengua
Y enseñó la dentadura
Con sonrisa retorcida.
Que a varios hizo temblar,
Por parecer homicida,
Y algo fuera de lugar.
Más, dejó como legado
Un cuento medio rimado
Y que ojalá y que a nadie asombre
El proverbio deschavetado
Que hay en la piedra y el hombre.
Fábula que se olvidó
En esa noche tormentosa
Que con risa peligrosa
En su despacho escribió.
Y que antes de... pido perdón
A cuantos ánimos sacuda,
Pues no es crítica
A la propiedad privada,
Es una burla;
Y así dice más o menos:

After the incidents
