Si sentì uno sgocciolio

Pretty with her somewhat green beauty
Blonde without seeming it
Almost sad, like the flowers and grass
Of a railway embankment
The silence was only disturbed by my chimeras

In the circles of the glass.

The sun low on the horizon
Colored the window
And printed flashes and footprints
On the gas pump,
She looked in the mirror of the soda-fountain

With a little shame, but only just,

To feel myself almost in a scene
Of an old Fox movie,
But so as not to throw in her face
Any useless cliché
I tapped an empty tin can
Of a box of tea.

But in the game I should have said to her
"Listen, listen, I'd like to talk to you...",
Then taking her hand on the counter
"I don't know how to start...",

With a squeak it ended
My atmosphere record
You could hear a drip-drop
In that air of neon and weight
It drowned out the clinking
That hanging sentence of mine
