E faccia dopo faccia
E ancora traccia dopo traccia
Torni dove niente ti aprirà le braccia

E rimpiangere, rimpiangere mai

Come piovigginano le vecchie cose
Perché fra i libri schiacciare rose
Di risa paghe e piene delle spose?

E buttar via un'incognita e uno scopo
Trascurare il giorno dopo
Come se chiudesse sempre

Studiar la stessa pagina di storia
Conosciuta già a memoria
Date e luoghi impressi a mente

Ma gocciola da sempre sul bagnato
Tesoriere dei tuoi giorni
Di chi ha preso e di chi ha dato

E ora dopo ora
E dopo un attimo ed ancora
La poetica consueta è "dell'allora"

Primo: non ricordare

Perché i ricordi sono falsati
I metri e i cambi sono mutati
Per la spietata legge dei mercati

E' come equilibrarsi sugli specchi
Ad ogni occhiata un po' più vecchi
Opachi, muti e deformanti

Frugare dentro ai soliti cassetti
Dove non c'è quel che ci metti
E mai le cose più importanti

E invece come tutti
Sempre lì a portarli addosso
A ricercare quel sottile straccio rosso

Che lega il tempo assente
Ed il presente e nella mente
Tutto questo poi ci si confonderà

On roads that have already seen you with downcast eyes?

You will not find the shadow that was you
And you will not have that extra hour
That you have squandered and that you now seek

The thought will melt away, impossible
Mixing the false and the true
In improbable universes

Like a dog
Who raises its nose and sniffs the air
Always following your solitary path

And face after face
And still trace after trace
You return where nothing will open its arms to you

And regret it, never regret it

How they drizzly, old things
Why press roses between books
Of satisfied and full laughter of the brides?

And throwing away an unknown and a purpose
Neglecting the day after
As if it always closed

Studying the same page of history
Already known by heart
Dates and places imprinted in the mind

But it always drips on the wet
Treasurer of your days
Of who has taken and who has given

And hour after hour
And after a moment and again
The usual poetry is "of the past"

First: don't remember

Because memories are distorted
The meters and changes have changed
By the ruthless law of markets

It's like balancing on mirrors
With each glance a little older
Opaque, mute and deforming

Rummaging through the usual drawers
Where there isn't what you put in them
And never the most important things

And instead like everyone else
Always carrying them around
Searching for that thin red rag

That binds the absent time
And the present and in the mind
All this will then be confused
