Von allen Wörtern hert man heut am meisten
Das Wort "A Schuster bleibt bei seinem Leisten!"
Doch sogt das jemand mir, sag ich "Was schreistn?
Ich kann mir meinen Leisten nicht mer leisten!"
Und außerdem, und das kommt noch dazu
Lässt folgende Idee mich nicht in Ruh:

Was mach ich, wenn ich keinen Leisten hab, bei dem ich bleiben kann?
Und hinter meinem Ohr zu wenig Platz wohin ich schreiben kann?
Und wenn ich nicht zwei Iebeln hab, dass ich das kleinre wählen kann?
Und niemals eine Reise tat und deshalb nix erzählen kann?
Was mach ich, wenn ich tanzen will und keinerlei Vulkan besitz
Und weder einen Pudelskern, noch eine schiefe Bahn besitz?
Ich hab auch ka Kolumbusei – ob das mich nicht zu Schaden fiehrt?
Und kenne einen Weg, der statt nach Rom nach Baden-Baden fiehrt!

The Last

Of all the words you hear these days
The most common is "A cobbler should stick to his last!"
But if someone says that to me, I say "What are you shouting about?
I can't afford my last anymore!"
And besides, and this is the kicker
The following idea won't leave me alone:

What do I do if I don't have a last that I can stick to?
And there's not enough room behind my ear to write on?
And if I don't have two evils that I can choose the lesser of?
And have never been on a trip and therefore have nothing to tell?
What do I do when I want to dance and don't have a volcano?
And no poodle's kernel, nor a crooked path?
I don't have a Columbus egg either - is that going to hurt me?
And I know a path that leads to Baden-Baden instead of Rome!

I look for owls everywhere that I can honor Athens
And live in a hotel where I'm not allowed to sweep in front of my door!

Now I've finally had enough!
I look at the other people
And do what I can't help but do:
