Der Witz

Mein Freund, der Fritz, hat mir
An guten Witz erzählt
Jetzt ist mein Herz so schwer
Der Witz war wirklich gut
Und ich hab' sehr gelacht
So wie schon lang nicht mehr

Es trifft der Blau den Grün –
Vielleicht auch umgekehrt
Und sagt: "Wie geht es dir?"
Drauf sagt der Grün zum Blau –
Oder auch umgekehrt:
"Ich hab' kein Geld bei mir!"

Sie reden dies und das –
Worüber, weiß ich nicht
Ein Wort löst's andere ab
Dann kommt der Kohn dazu
Und der sagt auch etwas –
Was ich vergessen hab

Und dann kommt die Pointe
Grad die weiß ich nicht mehr
Der Witz war aus. Der Fritz ging weg
Mein Herz war schwer

Ich ging bedrückt nach Haus
Und sagte selbst zu mir:
"Wer hätte das gedacht
Dass mich mein eigener Freund –
Vielleicht mit Absicht gar –
So melancholisch macht!"

Und drum verlang ich am Ende
Nur eins von dir, mein lieber Fritz
Wenn wir uns wiederseh'n:
Erzähl mir was du willst, nur kane Witz'

The Joke

My friend, Fritz, told me
About a good joke
Now my heart is heavy
The joke was really good
And I laughed a lot
As I haven't for a long time

Blue meets Green –
Maybe it was the other way around
And says: "How are you?"
Green says to Blue –
Or maybe it was the other way around:
"I don't have any money with me!"

They talk about this and that –
What about, I don't know
One word triggers the next
Then Kohn comes along
And he says something too –
Which I have forgotten

And then comes the punchline
Exactly why I don't know
The joke was over. Fritz went away
My heart was heavy

I went home depressed
And said to myself:
"Who would have thought
That my own friend –
Perhaps even on purpose –
Would make me so melancholy!"

And that's why I ask in the end
Only one thing from you, my dear Fritz
When we meet again:
Tell me whatever you want, but no jokes
