Wenn die Geigen lauter geigen
Und die Selbsmordziffern steigen
Merkt man gleich: Der Frühling ist jetzt nah!
Wenn die Leut' auf Berge wallen
Und dabei herunterfallen
Weiß man es: Jetzt is er da!

Denn der Mensch muss Berge klimmen
Und in tiefen Seen schwimmen
Und im Frühling nimmt er sich die Zeit
Dass es dann an Fachkraft mangelt
Die im See nach Leichen angelt
Is a Selbstverständlichkeit!

Weg mit dem Ski, dem Schlitten und dem Schlittschuh –
Sperrt sie im tiefsten Keller ein!
Von jetzt an heißt es Tennis, Fußball, Jiu-Jitsu –
Dabei bricht man sich genau das gleiche Bein!

Meine Tante hat vor Wochen
Sich ihr Schlüsselbein gebrochen
Denn sie schlug am Küchentisch ein Rad
Dass auch Grippe überhand nimmt
Und den Menschen den Verstand nimmt
Ist des Frühlings erste Tat

Auch in Punkto Liebe gibt's wahrlich nichts zu Lachen –
Jeder weiß im Frühling, da fängt sie an!
Und ein junger Mann macht im Frühling dumme Sachen
Die er dann im Winter schwer bereuen kann

"Schätzlein, nimm dies Blümlein
Dies Blütlein von dem Bäumlein!
Press es an dein Herzlein in wilder Lust!
Gib mir rasch ein Küsslein
Und träum ein süßes Träumlein –"
Diesen Stumpfsinn hört man von April bis August!

Später kriegt man den bewussten
Frühlingsschnupfen oder -husten
Gliederschmerzen, rot entflammten Schlund
Doch man kann als Liebeszeichen
Jede Krankheit weiterreichen
Als Bazill', von Mund zu Mund!

Ach, ich möchte schon seit Jahren
Einmal an den Nordpol fahren
Zwischen Ende März und Anfang Mai –
Doch das war mir nie beschieden
Und so sag' ich unzufrieden:
"Also gut! Auch Frühling geht vorbei!"

When the violins play so fine
And the suicide numbers climb on and on
That's how you know: Spring is coming near!
When people flock to the mountains
Only to fall into the fountains
You'll know right then, it's here!

Because people must climb up the hills
And take a swim in the water so chill
And in the spring, they have the time
To cause a shortage of expertise
For those who fish in the lake
It's just an annual event!

Away with skis, sleds, and ice skates –
Lock them in the deepest cellar!
From now on it's tennis, football, jiu-jitsu –
Although it breaks the very same leg!

My aunt broke her collarbone
Weeks ago while spinning at home
Her kitchen table became a wheel
The flu is rampant too
It makes people lose their minds
Spring's very first deed

Even when it comes to love, there's really no reason to laugh –
Because everyone falls in love in spring!
Young men do silly things in the spring
That they'll deeply regret in the winter.

"My dear, take this little flower
This blossom from the tree!
Press it to your heart with wild delight!
Give me a kiss
And dream of me among the mist!"
We hear this nonsense from April to August!

Later on, you'll catch for sure
The typical spring cold or cough
Aches and pains and sore throat too
But as a sign of love
You can spread your sickness
As germs, from mouth to mouth!

Oh, for years I've wanted to
Travel to the North Pole once
Between the end of March and the beginning of May –
But it was never meant to be
So I say with discontent:
"Alright! Spring too shall pass away!"
