Mes exploits amoureux tiendraient dans quelques lignes
Je n′aurai pas un mot pour mes petits regrets
Je serai sec et noir, tout comme un pied de vigne
Qui n'aura pas donné
La terre tourne sans moi, comme elle l'a déjà fait
Depuis quelques milliards d′années
Elle le fera encore, que veux-tu que ça fasse
Que j′aie conscience ou non de tout ce temps qui passe?
En guise de Mémoires, j'écrirai mes absences
Ma totale amnésie
À vous d′imaginer, au fil des pages blanches
Ce qu'a été ma vie
Je conseille aux plus grands de lire entre les lignes
Pour sentir tout le poids de mes sous-entendus
S′exprimer par des mots, ponctués par des signes
Me semble à la portée du tout premier venu
La terre tourne sans moi, comme elle l'a déjà fait
Depuis quelques milliards d′années
Elle le fera encore, que veux-tu que ça fasse
Que j'aie conscience ou non de tout ce temps qui passe?

Memoirs of an Amnesiac

I haven't yet reached the age of writing my Memoirs
And, if I ever do
I'll have to invent stories
I will have forgotten everything
One moment chasing another without me remembering
And life goes through me without making me exist
I'm the horseman of a Viennese waltz
Who doesn't know how to turn
Like the lighthouse keeper of a toy-theater sea
Painted on paper
I'm used to the calm before the storm
Which never comes
My love affairs would fit in a few lines
I won't have a word for my little regrets
I'll be dry and black, just like a vine stock
Which won't have given anything
The earth turns without me, as it has already done
For a few billion years
It will do it again, what do you expect it to do
Whether I'm aware or not of all this time going by?
Instead of Memoirs, I'll write my absences
My total amnesia
It's up to you to imagine, throughout the blank pages
What my life has been
I advise the greatest minds to read between the lines
To feel all the weight of my insinuations
Expressing oneself with words, punctuated by signs
Seems within the reach of the first person who comes along
The earth turns without me, as it has already done
